Silly question but is anyone else having aches and pains in hands & arms following all this massaging we need to do?
I'm 13 weeks post TKR (& some other bits through shin to hold up knee). I need further surgery to straighten the leg and also a possible manipulation.
My issue today though (there's always something) is I woke up this morning feeling like I'd been weight training. My shoulders and hands were aching so much when I woke. It eased quite quickly but has anyone else had this?
Does anyone have any suggestions to make massaging easier?
I already use lotion etc but trying to get as deep as possible into the muscles is really taking its toll on my hands. At this rate I'll end up with problems with them and need to go to another chat group Lol.
Kathryn, I have to say this is the first I've heard of this. At least in regards to the soreness being from massaging your legs. What I did find out in my healing process (I had a bilateral TKR) was that where I was accustomed to using my legs to help me move around, I was now having to use my arms in various ways. I started having the terrible tingling of carpel tunnel (had both wrists operated on over a dozen years ago and this was the first time I had it like this). My elbows had become so dry they were nearly raw and my arms just ached more. So I wonder if it's a combination of this and all the massaging you are doing. I used a deep heat rub for my muscles. This meant less massaging was needed and did a great job. Perhaps you can find something like that. Or use a massaging tool, even rubbing a tennis ball or a smooth ended stick (or wooden spoon) over those areas.
Kathryn, have you got a partener who can do this for you? This would make it easier. I massage my leg first thing in the morning then my hubby does this whilst the evening meal is cooking. Only have massage twice a day maybe you are doing it too often. I have a fluid problem that is stopping the leg straightening but I am going to ask the doc for either more anti inflamatory tabs ot water tabs.
Maybe I am doing it too much. I just have limited movement so do it to start it moving and then to ease the pain. I've ordered a massage thing on line that is meant to help with muscles so I'll give that a go.
Im back living with mum at the moment following a messy break up. She's really good and I have roped her in to helping with some exercises but she's a bit too heavy handed, not sure I'm ready to test out her massaging skills 😳
