my Dr has given me matazapine 30mg to take at night!. I am worried that they will make me worse as cetalapram and sertraline did when I took them could not tolerate their side effects !. but I need to do something as feel I’m going mad with anxiety and depression.just dont know what I’m doing!
If you’re having trouble getting a good night’s sleep the mirtazapine should fix that. May also help with other symptoms.
Hi Alan124
I have been on mirt for several months. I went up to 45mg for anxiety and depression and I feel these have subsided enough for me to come off. I’m on a liquid mirtazerpin so I can gradually withdraw. What I have discovered about this drug, based on my use and what I have read here, is that this drug effects everybody in different ways. My doc told me it can take up to 4 months to come off. Too quick and I may get some terrible side effects such as, ironically, depression and anxiety. Mirt can work and take the edge off depression and anxiety, but be aware that coming off must be done gradually. 45mg is maximum often given but give it a chance on what you are on and go up or down depending on how you feel. Sorry, I don’t know if any of that helps. It’s such a complicated drug so there are so many answers.
I had terrible nausea starting citalopram and the doctor let me stop after 4 days. On the other hand, starting Mirtazapine caused no bad reaction (but see below!) and has proved excellent for sleep. But I had to stay on just 7.5 mg because 15 mg made me so drowsy, and I have spent many months tapering down after a year on 7.5. I recommend giving it a good try (though I’m surprised you are starting at 30 mg) but remember that coming off will take a long time. It did help my anxiety, though it came back if I tapered down too quickly. It did not help my mild depression (mild because cognitive behaviour therapy got me out of the really bad patch), but that may be because I was on such a low dose. Give it time. All good wishes to you.
