Hi everyone, thanks to everyone who responded to me yesterday. Todays BIG NEWS....I've got my surgery date!!!! Friday March 6th, so 5 weeks from tomorrow!
So not so long that Ive got too long to worry, but enough time to make sure everything is organised as much as possible prior to admission. Lists galore, shopping, meal plans, batch cooking......I may sound as though Im taking it a bit lightly, thats my coping mechanism, Im actually terrified! A few tears this morning when I received the confirmation letter, still feeling a bit wobbly, but this is what Ive been waiting for since July of last year.......
Sorry guys, but you can expect me to be hanging around here a fair bit now.....
Hope everyones having a good day - its just started snowing really heavily here, I love snow and I havent got to go anywhere so Im going to watch it from the living room window. Lifes' little pleasures......
So now you can start sweating....Good luck....
Hi terri snowing here too unfortunately had shopping to do so was caught out a bit frightening to say the least. All the best for your op, organisation is good and will fill the hours until the op. at 3weeks I was able to do a small shop with my daughter in law and I think it is good to set yourself little goals. My goal now at 6months is going to cyprus in march. It's a hard road but you will get there. Don't be afraid to shed a few tears, its the unknown and you are entitled to be a bit nervous. You will find this forum a godsend I know I did
Hi Terri,
Take a deep breath.
Its a scorching 38 degrees here, and has been every day for a fortnight.
I miss the snow, but not the cold.
Buy lots of frozen peas.
Good luck
I wish I had found this forum before my TKR, it's tummy wobble time for you but don't worry.

Good news although you may not think so in a few weeks. Although I'm 4 months post op I'll never forget the first few weeks. However, I am spending the summer driving thousands of miles around Europe, west, east and south. I couldn't have done that without my new knee. Take all the advice you get on here.No one knows more about this op than the people who have had it' Without this forum I wouldn't have been this good.
Thanks Tucks, I hope youre ok after your snow drama!
I really like the idea of small goals, that will give me something to work towards. My first really major goal is to go on holiday in Septermber - like yourself, I will be 6 months post TKR by then and am hoping to be doing well.
Im so thankful to have found this forum, and the understanding that everone on here has. Thank you.
Thanks Caz, your weather sounds lovely!
My freezer has load and loads of icepacks, all good to go, theyre a kind of gel-like substance inside, so mould really well. I think we will become firm friends!
What a shame you didnt find this forum before your TKR, the support I've had has been overwhelming, unlike any other group Ive ever been part of.
Take care, and enjoy the heat!

Hi Carol, youre right, its definitely a double-edged sword, on the one hand Im releived to finally have a date, but terrified as I have researched loads and know what to expect, especially in the early days/weeks.
I love the fact that everyone on here speaks from experience, and we get the full spectrum from the textbook cases, up and about and getting on with their lives really quickly, but also the more nightmareish scenarios, where if it can go wrong, it does! Thank goodness I found this place!
Your summer sounds amazing, you must be really loking forward to it.
I certainly am. Last summer my husband had a major stroke, thankfully recovered now, my Mum had an emergency operation and I was in agony with my knee. I had waited 7 months for a consultation. However, when my consultant saw my x rays he put me straight on his list. I was in hospital in 8 weeks. this summer isvgoing to be great and so will yours be because the worst will be over and you'll be out and about with it all behind you. Best of luck.
We have got snow in Northampton too good luck with your op I will be having my assessment that day I am so glad I found this forum hearing other people's experiences
Very pleased for you Terri! I'll be thinking of you every step of the way! I thought I'd be having mine done Feb/March and go on holiday in September! But my consultant advised me to leave it for now as my knee caps are completely gone but there is still a bit of life left in the rest of the knee joint. I'm seeing him again - just realised its the day you have your operation! So see what he says then but I've booked holidays now for May and September so it'll have to wait. But I'll be following you every step of the way particularly as it could have been me!
I know you said in another post about planning and researching. I've done that too even watching the YouTube video. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail!!! (As the saying goes!)
Kind regards,
Gill X
Between now and then the moods will swing from anticipation to anxiety. Do whatever you can to build some strength and elasticity in your thighs and hips. These will all take a beating when it comes to rehab. You don't want to build a lot of bulk just strength. I saw one of your additional posts about the gel packs.....be sure and wrap them in a towel or pillow case. Don't let them touch the bare skin or they will cause frostbite. I know you want to get a lot done but go into surgery well rested and hydrated. This takes a tremoudous toll on the entire system and you want to ready for that by being as healthy as you can possibly be. This was never explained to me and it was a lesson learned the hard way. This is a great, caring group. Wish I had something like this when I started the joury 12 years ago
Hope all goes really well, stay in touch ,
Hope all went well and your ready for coming home best wishes terri
