Medication after Tkr

My Tkr op was 7 weeks ago.Simce then I have had liquid morphine, Naproxen, Tramadol & extra strong Paracetamol . My knee is still painful/ hot but not so intense. I'm wondering if I could manage on just Ibuprofen now. If not it's back to the doctor for meds on prescription only. Has anyone one else lessened their dose?

Hi Eileen I was on string pain killers until about 6 weeks now at 9 weeks I'm only taking paracetamol but need to take it regularly. It is helpful as strong painkillers made me feel worse than the psin

Unfortunately pain can last. Try cutting down on narcotics perhaps by taking several advil every 4 hrs.

I was resistent to opiods and was afraif of upping dose. I sslo was always following my pain, never in front of it.

I had a hot knee for many months.

It does eventually get better. I promise.

But it was much more than i was expeccting.

Hi Chris, yes I can manage during the day now at 7 weeks & will only take ibuprofen at night. & see how it goes

Hi Joymarta , yes , the hot knee & pain was quite a shock to me as I had no idea what to expect. .after 7 weeks my pain isn't so bad or even the ne nights. I will start taking ibuprofen at night, I installed a small freezer by my bed, before surgery . So  at night if / when it gets hot I'll also ice knee, the early weeks I was icing every hour day & night, but it has got better thankfully

I'm 4 1/2 months and still on pain meds at night. Not only for the TKR but also for the other knee that will get replaced on April 11 and also the back pain. I hate nights as that seems to be when the pain is the worst. But I got the voltaren gel that Chico said to use and it helps some. I've tried to not take pain meds but have only gotten down to two doses at night.
