im waiting on a hip replacement but my and discomfort & pain is getting unbearable. i’ve tried the following medications but really dont seem to work anymore.
naproxen
co codomol
Dihydrocodiene (just started recently)
Did Dihydrocodiene work for anyone?
Co codamol didn’t work too well and has the nasty side effect of constipation. I took paracetamol backed up by an occasional dihydrocodeine (again watch for constipation) which helped me rest.
In the latter couple of months I got terrible nerve pain, so my GP prescribed Gabapentin or Neurontin. It actually worked fairly well and I eventually got a reasonable night’s sleep.
Nothing compares to the pain relief of the actual operation. I hope you are taken soon.

Thank you for your reply. Paracetomol isnt strong enough for me. Yes the meds are really causing constipation but i may ask for Gabapentin if these dihydrocodeine dont work.
I did find dihydracodeine did work. I have had Tramadol too.
My GP also mentioned Amitriptyline as an alternative to Gabapentin.
I used co codamol (yes constipation was an still is bad)
I also used gabaprentin and morphine and was able to do daily activities.straight after op went cold turkey and glad I did, but now back on meds due to other hip.
just keep talking with your doctor, and I found them really helpful getting me the rid meds.
tried amitriotyline and knocked me out sleep wise but did nothing for pain. everyone diffeeent though, its just getting what works for you.
Hi-I have been taking Tramadol and Meloxicam for years for my knee osteo and those are the meds my doc said work well for my hip osteo also. Good luck!
