Has anyone used a certain med for a few years to suddenly have it make them feel very unwell? I've been taking co-codomal shop strength and prescription strength for last few years and the last few times I've taken it I get very shivery, nauseated, dizzy and drugged feeling.
It doesn't really do much for pain but I suppose it takes a very small edge off and as I hate the anticonvulsants it's been my weapon of choice which I would hate to loose as an option.
I don't take any meds apart from herbal ayruvedic meds. I don't like the sound of many of the side effects from many of the meds, so I decided not to take them my own personal choice.
Hope you get the answers you need from others on this forum. x
Do you eat before you take it? I haven't had it happen but it does sound like it could be a combination of either not enough to eat or drink or maybe it's been hotter than you're used to, could that be it?
Thanks Shelagh, Perhaps I hadn't eaten enough, that could be it, I can't remember what I had to eat the last few times so I'll watch out for that next time and see if it makes a difference!
Thank Bee, What Ayurvedic meds do u take and go they help? I hate the side effects too which Is why cocodomal was the thing I only try to take as for me I didn't get to many problems.
Hi Charlotte. I was prescribed Co-codamol for several years for osteo athritis. Didn't like it and took the bare minimum to try and control the OA pain Then I had food poisoning, Campyler Bactor and was given the 30/500 dose to slow down the "runs"! It worked for this quite well but after I went back to normal dose it failed to control the pain and I started to have severe stomach pain and constipation! Another GP prescribed Tramadol and I've taken them ever since for the OA but also for shingles. I managed with them and didn't take any other pain relief even though I've had PHN since I started the shingles in April. I think you're probably having side effects or a bad reaction. Best see a doc and explain things and hopefully he/she will prescribe somethig else. Good luck at the surgery!
Sounds like you are having a rough time. Having done a bit of research the following is listed for co-codomal although of course fibro could cause any of the below listed problems!!!
tolerance (drug has less effect with continued use)
Dependence (withdrawal symptoms of tremor, increased sweating, raised heart and breathing rates, raised blood pressure and feeling or being sick) when co-codamol is stopped too suddenly
Dizziness
Confusion
Shortness of breath
Sleepiness
Feeling sick (nausea)
Vomiting (being sick)
Stomach pain
Loss of appetite
Constipation
Dry mouth
Blurred vision
Liver problems
Postural hypotension (low blood pressure on sitting or standing up)
Slower heart rate
Rashes
Difficulty in urinating or pain when urinating.
Maybe a trip or call to the doctor is needed for a review. Good luck hope you find the answer soon.
Thanks Ellie, i dont know why i take it as it really doesnt control my pain at all but when im strugglling terribly i need to do something. The only side effect i did get was dry eyes and constipation for a few days so i can see why you would be prescribed it to slow down the runs. Tramadol always makes me feel like these new side effects of the cocodomal x 5 and again that doesnt make any difference to any pain of mine, i stay in agony and the next day i feel so drunk and dizzy and sick.
Thanks Maggers, i have pain clinic on the 07th july so will battle to get some pain relief then! Im very cautious with what and when i take it as i dont want to add side effects from the meds to the rest of the stuff!
I have no idea how painkillers are addictive as for me they either dont work or make me feel rough and thats not a feeling i want all the time.
I'm waiting to see how the meds work before I give my final verdict. Although I have been to see a professional Ayruvedic Doctor who gets most of his meds from India, I'm also finding out about my body too and the imbalance of it. So the meds are for balancing my body and not curing the Fibromyalgia. The severe pains I was getting in my shoulders and neck and back area for over 15 yrs have reduced by 90% but the pains in my hands have increased. I only started on my herbal meds Feb 2015. I also have issues with sleep and constantly feeling hot, so I'm hoping these issues will sort themselves out too.
It's best if you go and see an Ayruvedic specialist or google the info on it. It's a personal treatment. It may do you good or nothing at all but it can't harm you or have side effects of conventional meds.
Sorry to hear that you are having such a bad time with pain control. You can certainly become tolerant to opiates which reduces their effect on pain. Opiates such as codeine and tramadol will make you constipated. My experience of severe back pain is that none of the analgesics I was prescribed got rid of the pain. I found that tramadol just made me feel woozy which maybe distracted me from the pain. I expect that you are going back to your doctor for more help with pain control. Your doctor might be able to refer you to your local hospital's pain clinic. I do hope that you get some help.
Thanks, cocodomal never really worked so not sure it's a tolerance issue but neither does anything else so perhaps I'm just immune to the good side of meds and only get side effects! I have pain clinic next month and will be asking for some lidocaine patches to see if it will help with the neck pain.
I would go back to your gp. when youve taken a meds for a long time some times they can have the adverse reaction.. and stop working at all or astart to affect you in making you ill. I would get in touch with your gp and tel them how its affecting you take care gentle hugs
