Melatonin and Xanax at night, depression in the morning?

Hi all. I've been going through a tough period lately and my depression has kicked up. So, I increased my Paxil dose (talked to Psychiatrist at my counselling center first) from 20 mg/day to 30 mg/day. It seemed to help.

Also, I've been on Paxil for over 25 years-since I was diagnosed with clinical depression at 38. For most of the time, I have been on that same dose-20 mg/day. So maybe I needed more to get the same effect as I used to, since I've been on it for so long?

At any rate, owing to anxiety attacks my physician prescribed a light dose of Xanax at night, .25 mg pill. Just enough to get me to relax and help me sleep. I also take a Melatonin (over the counter sleep aid) along with it to help me relax. All well and good.

The issue is this-for the last couple of mornings I have woken up feeling depressed. Just wanted to lay in bed and not get up until about noon. I was going to go to Church services today and couldn't get out of bed to clean up. Does anyone know if taking a Xanax and a Melatonin at night could contribute to neutralizing the effect of Paxil-and setting me up for morning depression? After I took my 30 mg of Paxil today I started to feel a little better.

Any input would be appreciated.

Xanax in general left me feeling worse when it wore off I couldn’t take it anymore due to that reason. If you haven’t already, see about switching to Ativan. Has the same effect but no nasty feelings after it wears off

Thanks for the tip, brooke. When my Xanax supply runs out I'll ask my physician about Ativan.

I have been using valium but find it is not very effective.  Should i ask my dr for something better for my constant anxiety
