Meniere's and driver's license?

On other site, a user said his doc noted MD on his medical file, and some time later the DMV revoked his driver's license until his condition was "cured". Apparently, the clinic notified the DMV. It became impossible to get his license back.

Has this happened to anyone here? Is this common?

Yeah unfortunately this happened to me. I had my license taken off me by my ent.

Wow--terrible. Did you ever get it back?

Yeah i did a year later. I'm only aloud to drive in my home town and if i need to go anywhere else i have to have another driver with me and nt aloud to do any night time driving.

OMG, that is unbelievable! Menier's is not something that you should lose your driver's license for! How dare they do that! How dare your doctors do this to you. You should post the names of these ENTs to warn other patients! so sorry you had to go through that.

Do you mean DVLA? Their website makes it clear that MD is a notifiable condition and you must not drive if there is a possibilty you could not safely control your vehicle. In other words if the onset of an attacK is so sudden and disabling that you could not be sure of safely stopping and seeking help. They have a form for reporting which I used. Because I was able to say that I was on appropriate medication and sufficiently aware of a possible attack to stay safe, backed up by my consultants details they did not take away my licence. If they do revoke a licence it is possible to get it back if the condition improves suifficiently but it is a slow process!

It is important to remember that we are driving a potentially lethal weapon.
