Meniere's Disease

Hello, Just been diagnosed with MD. The blurred vision is the hardest for me. ALthough i do have ringing in the ears its not too bad at the moment. Does anyone else have the constant tension headache that never goes away? Also, does that mean swimming and flying are no go as well? Sorry for all tyhe questions just been very shocked when all i thought i had was a couple of panic attacks. Good luck everyone.

Hi Greg,

I have the tension headache which is not painful but annoying. It was helped by having four steroid injections in the eardrum the last in July but hoping to get another, just waiting to hear back from my consultant. Swimming was not advised by my GP and I can understand why if you looked up and got dizzy in the water . Flying doesn't seem to bother people, I have yet to try it myself since diagnosis. I had four successful four hour ferry journeys which I had worried about but no problems.

Blurred vision came and went depending on the strength of nartural light.  Cap and sunglasses did the trick on very bright days.  Balance retraining (aka  vestibular rehab), yoga and breathing exercises morning and night has helped a lot with tension and headaches. It is the anxieties. I swim a mile three times a week, I avoid too many front crawl and keep my head out of the water.  Walking is a must.  flying may depend but I have had no issues. Keeping fingers crossed, Good luck.

Flying affects the middle ear and Meniere's is a problem in the inner ear.  So flying doesn't bother people with Meniere's any more than it bothers anyone else.  I've flown a number of times since I've had Meniere's and it isn't an issue.  As long as your eustachian tubes work ok and you don't have fear of flying, you should be ok.

I have blur vision, didn't know its part of the MD but explaines a lot know. I have had these horrible headaches lately. Last night woke up at 5am for really bad one which lasted until 11am. These headaches been coming now 4 days. Sometimes with dizziness. Are you able to work?

Hi Greg,

The first thing I thought of when. I read your post, was a member who found out she was in the wrong forum:  She actually had something called Migraine-Associated Vertigo.  She had terrible headaches along with some of the classic symptoms of MD.  Personally, I've never had a headaches associated with my MD...but there are so many varieties of MD symptoms, nothing would surprise me!  Do they go away with aspirin, Tylenol, or Ibuprofen?

I've had no trouble with flying at all.  The only time I had trouble swimming was a few weeks ago, was when I tried to do a handstand in the water...It made me very dizzy!  But then it went away as soon as I stood up.  But I have to say that now that I have MD, I would never go in the water alone.  And I still wear my emergency button if I'm traveling.

Let us know how it's going.  I wish you all the best!

Thank you all for the replies. That is a little comforting and will need to do more research as i like swimming and flying. What about walking down the street?....i feel like i am wanting to run to my destinantion just to "get there". Do yopu guys have the same feeling? Also im always unsteady...i wonder if you guys have days were you are steady and you feel good? or is every day an unsteady one.(I did have 3 attacks prior to being diagnosed with violent vomiting and 3 day recoveries.) Thank you its great to be able to chat with others as no one really understands Had someone ask me can you just run it off??
