Menopausal Flatulance

Hi folks, I started the menopause at the age of 36 but wasn't taken seriously until I was 42 when i was told by a female gp after examining me that i was on the full blown menopause. I already knew this but was given the HRT which helped with the hot flushes and mood swings. Prior to the HRT being prescribed I was an emotional wreck but thankfully the HRT has helped to control that too thank god. These past few years I have since developed the most embarrassing problem and that is the terrible amount of gas that absolutely reeks. Everyone in this household are forever running around with the air freshener because it really is bad. When I say bad i mean really bad. Sometimes the gas is so loud when i release it and then other times its silent but either way its still embarrassing. I have altered my diet and don't eat onions or garlic but still no improvement. Sometimes it settles down a bit for a short while but then it returns. I was just wondering if anyone else has the same problem and if anyone knows of something that i can buy OTC. Many thanks

The only thing I can advise you on is to try a gluten free diet for two weeks . I had the same problem and was diagnosed with coeliac 6 months ago ...

You can only try 💕

Yes, try an elimination diet. The smell makes me suspect it is dairy so give that up for a month, and then try gluten? Onions and garlic are probably not the culprits.

Also carry a box of matches and light them straight after a toot session. They help counter the smell!

Hi Vanessa.. I've awful trouble with wind.. In my tummy lots of the time.. It leaves me with a weird feeling in my tummy and have to eat something... At least its coming out of you...maybe take a good pro biotic each morning and drink plenty of water... For me,this has been one of the worst things about menapause so you are not alone.. CK

Have you tried probiotics?  It helped the smell of mine

Hi Carol, thanks ever so for getting back to me. I will try what you've suggested and hopefully I will see an improvement, or at least I hope I will lol! Its good to know that I'm not the only one suffering with this due to the menopause.

Hi 2chr2015 thanks for getting back to me, much appreciated. I will try what you've suggested and fingers crossed it helps.

Hi Clare1971, thanks for getting back to me, much appreciated. I will try what you've suggested and fingers crossed it helps because by god is the stench from the excessive wind embarrassing.
