Metformin and alcohol

Hi

i have been put on Metformin for my PCOS, but see that it says not to drink with them.  I will be drinking a lot over the next couple of months what with weddings, hen dos and holidays and whilst I know 'binge drinking' isn't good for you full stop I was wondering if it is going to be dangerous on Metformin or if it is just a warning? Please can someone let me know? Would it be better to stop taking the day before a big event for example or is it better to just not take it at all?

Thank you!

One of the issues of drinking alcohol with Metformin is the possible side effect of lactic acidosis. This is not likely to happen with a glass or two of wine but is a very real risk with heavy drinking. I found a good article online which is worth reading. I am not sure if I can put a link here but I will try:

hi melody145 i would think it would be better for you to do as the medication says and have no alcohol, what is better for you health or alchol, i know you dont want to be the odd one out but try just a couple of low alcohol drinks

Melody 145' have to totally agree with al5aph49, whats better a few parties and the like booze free and better health or your own funeral, youve been given the meds for a reason, take them and dont drink. you will also have the joy of watching your friends sel destruct, its amazing to watch sober and a good kesson. you dont have to get wasted to have fun, try it.
