Thank you for reading
Hi Doreen. I started Methotrexate about 3 weeks ago and am taking the same oral dose age that you are. I had my first fortnight lay blood test last week. I was assured by my nurse practioner at my RA centre that the blood tests were to check kidney and liver function. I too felt unwell on my first week but has gradually improved. My only symptom now is a bloated tummy for a couple of days after I take the weekly course. For months I have suffered shortage of nreath when walking. Suddenly this has improved since I started Methotrexate. Are you also taking folic acid tablets on the other 6 days?
When I was on oral mtx I started on a lower dose than you but it did make me feel quite unwell for a while. Unfortunately I never quite got used to it orally but know people on it who got used to it after a few weeks. I'd guess that your symptoms are just your body getting used to the drug rather than anything sinister that you need to worry too much about. Regular blood testing will hopefully show that
I took my first one on Friday. I will take the folic acid this Monday I still feel sick but not throw up I am very windy abd have tummy cramps. I will see how i go. Thank you for your rely.😊
Thank you i will see how its goes. Hopefully the side effects will wear off in time.
Blood tests will look out for signs of toxicity. Are you taking folic acid 5 mg on non mtx days? You can split your dose into two, half on a Tuesday the other on a Friday which will reduce the side effects.
