metoclopramide for slow emptying tummy??

8 weeks a go i was started on anti acids (Lansoprazole)  as they think i have acid reflux as i was getting an acidic/gnawing , unsettled feeling in the upper part of my tummy....which is there evry day as soon as i wake up.....the anti acids have taken away the gnawing feeling but im still feeling the acidic/unsettled feeling in upper tummy, So the doctor has just perscribed me 10mg once a day of metoclopramide, because the doctor thinks i may have a sluggish tummy....slow emptying......anyone suffer with a slow emptying stomach?? what were your symptoms? what medication were you given ect??

You should request a Gastric Emptying Study/Test. I suggest not taking metoclopramide (Reglan) without knowing if that is your actual problem because that can have awful side effects if not used right. Make sure not to take it for longer than 12 weeks.

People who have a slow emptying stomach have the disease called Gastroparesis. Many people have differing symptoms, but the problem is the same since food goes out of the stomach very slowly and food can be in there for hours.

Symptoms can include full feeling after eating a couple bites, nausea, heartburn, indigestion, regurgitation, vomiting, burping, stomach pain, bloating, and many others. Not everyone who has Gastroparesis will have all of the symptoms. Some don't even have any but still have it.

The medication doctors usually give is Reglan, but it can't be taken for more than 12 weeks so most people have to also change their diet to easily digestable food and liquids. There are other medications also that are less dangerous.

Have you gotten an endoscopy? It can confirm if you might have an ulcer among other things, because to me, it sounds like it's an ulcer.

I hope you find the problem soon smile Order tests!

Ive had an endoscopy.......so dont think its an ulcer to be honest.  My doctor told me to try it for a week ...ive to see him again next week.
