I’m hoping to have surgery for disc bulge L5/S1 within the next few months. i have been off work now for 13 months. I’m a postwoman and walk up to 13 miles per day carrying weight obviously. My question is from people who have had this surgery, have you been able to return to full activities, have you had a full recovery and do you think it possible that I will be able to return to my job? My neurosurgeon reckons that I will be able to return to full activities, is he being hopeful?

I love my job too but they are talking about ill health retirement now. Were you a postie? What happened with you? Did you leave because of your back?
