Never had any problems before. BUT we found shes not been looking after herself. She smoked heavily for 30 years. Recent years her alcohol consumption has been way excessive and she tends not to eat. Before being admitted she pretty much didn’t eat at all for a few weeks. Also, she takes painkillers for her back (on an empty stomach!)
1st colonoscopy indicated some sort of IBD. Shes been in hospital a month and keeps getting infections. 2nd colononscopy has seem some areas that are not right. Having an MRI.
Either way they’ve mentioned colectomy and a bag…
Shes 80 - she doesn’t know yet but I don’t think its going to go down too well.
Do they do this on the elderly? Whats the prognosis generally?
