mild, moderate or sereve depression?

Did the doctor tell you which one you had? What's the difference?

No, but I read the patient information leaflet with the medication, according to that Fluoxetine which iwas on for about 6 years was for mild to moderate depression. However when he changed the medication in Sept following a course of CBT and several visits to him the leaflet said for severe depression. However I have never found out what classes as a  mild, moderate or severe depression.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links but google 'difference between mild and severe depression there is agood article by Health Central that explains the difference. There are also self diagnostic depression tests you can google which catorgorise your depression. Mine is moderate to severe

I think it very unlikely that a doctor would tell you whether your depression is mild or severe.  That would be difficult to answer, and I think the person suffering would know how severe they felt their depression was.  It would not make any difference to the treatment, unless the depression was so severe the person had to be hospitalised.

Obviously if a person felt their depression was so severe they could not cope, even on medication, then they should go back to doctor who would probably refer them to a psychiatrist.

Obviously the answer lies in the question really, as mild would not affect the persons life too much, wheras severe could mean that person is uable to cope and needs a lot of support and help.
