Mild symptoms but feeling of ball in rectum is annoying

Had Sclerotherapy for grade 1 hemorrhoids and after 3 weeks i felt a lot better. Now I do how ever have that annoying feeling of a ball or something in my rectum. I know i've had similar with internal hemorrhoids before. Anyone else had that symptom? It eases after bowel movement. Can in be from fissure? Hemorrhoids or perhaps pelvic muscle tension?

Hi, John!
I had a full hemorrhoidectomy Nov 2018 and the feeling you’re talking about, the “ball” in your rectum, I have as well, off and on, even 14 months post surgery. Everyone is different, so I can only speak for myself, but since the docs can only remove 3 hems at a time, (they removed 3 grade 3 externals on me…yeah, OUCH! And recovery was brutal) they left the 2 internals that I have still intact. So I have that “ball in the rectum” feeling as well sometimes, especially while sitting. It feels as if I’m literally sitting on a rock or something in my butt. It’s extremely annoying & uncomfortable and I have to use creams and suppositories, sit as little as possible, avoid sitting on hard surfaces like wooden chairs, etc. until the feeling passes. Sometimes takes a day, sometimes 3 days, sometimes a week. I believe it is the internal hemmi’s causing this, John, not a fissure or anything else. When they swell (for me it’s AFTER a bm…either one that’s too hard or if I have a bout of diarrhea) I believe that’s the feeling we are having in our rectum. It’s odd to me that yours go away AFTER a bm, when mine only occur after a bm (some, not all) but like I said, everyone is different. For now, I just “doctor it” at home when it occurs until it goes away. I know one day, unless they disappear on their own, I’ll have to have my 2 internals dealt with surgically, but I’m not ready to even think about that yet. My hemorrhoidectomy recovery took a full year (rare, I know) and was very painful and mentally draining, so you can understand me not wanting to go under the knife again. I’ve read enough about banding to know I’ll never do that, but I hear electrotherapy for internals zaps them away with only one treatment. That’s prolly what I’ll look into later on, & you might want to check on it as well. Sorry this was so long, John. Just wanted to give you a little info on myself so you could see that you are DEF not alone in all this. I feel your pain (literally) and so many others on this forum can relate as well, I’m sure. Wishing you all the best, & hoping that feeling goes away very soon without needing anymore procedures! Just remember…YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

Hi there, I have been dealing with the same thing for 3 weeks now. It’s making me depressed and I can’t even sleep anymore. Just so you know you are not alone. I read online that it might be pelvic related but I don’t know, I think for me it is just the hemorrhoids beeing in a flare. Sleeping on your side seems to relieve some pressure, but at the end of the day that rectal fulness gets worse. Please if someone out there that is reading and had the same issue how do you deal with it?

Hi everyone,

I am in day 66 after hemorrhoidectomy for 2 severe internal hemorrhoids.

I am also feeling the cramping, tightness or ball in rectum feeling. It’s better than the pain of the first month or more, but still pretty difficult to manage the discomfort.

Please know that you are not alone in your suffering and its effects on a person are both mental and physical.

I have asked my doctor about this and they are recommending I stay the course of healing and if not better soon they are sending me to get biofeedback to determine if my pelvic floor muscles require retraining.

Hang in there and please keep on posting as the days go by. Just exchanging these stories when you feel so alone with your pain makes me feel a little less sad.
