mind made up time

After a bad night and pain in right shoulder progressing to muscle I have decided to start 2mg of preds for a couple weeks.Feel that all Pmr symptoms are on the go again. Waiting for keyhole surgery on left shoulder so can't let right one go out of use. Now we will find out if Doc is right about low doses n meaningful.

Hope 2mg is enough - you might need a few days of 5mg to clear out the existing inflammation but try with 2mg first. He'll still claim it was placebo effect...

Good luck and get well soon!

Yes, good luck from me, too, Beatrice.  If that 2mg doesn't do the trick, don't hesitate to return to 5mg for a few days do as Eileen has suggested.  Will offer you extra protection for going through the surgery as well.

So far today I have been able to get out of chair and stand up without groin stiffness and pain. This eve can lift arm Fulbright without too much prob. Sorry mean full height. Will stay on two and go Docs next week for a telling off.Hopefully have caught in time. it's so great to be able to confide with fellow sufferers family think I should do as Doc says .Will keep in touch please it seems lots of us have supposed at some time.Have had a miserable three weeks going a little worse each day. Thank you all .

My typing is erratic folks should say updosed not supposed .

As I said - you are by no means the first to have it happen. And to have waited for weeks before noticing what was happening.

I can't remember - how long had you been off pred? Is your GP sympathetic? Would they be willing to manage you?

Eileen I had been off Pred three weeks but almost straight away after a couple of days I got twinges, my Rheumy said take painlillers and dont upgrade again. Painkillers did nothing but only Paracetomal.Gradually got severe groin pain in both legs could hardly get out of a chair, this week. I have taken 2 preds for last two days and am walking much better no pain and arm slightly improving, will continue on two a day for a week and gradually half the tabs at 1and half daily. GP told me to ride pain and not get back o n Pred so I will go next Tues and get told off at least I am functioning. Also pain from hands has disappeared so looks like two is sufficient.  Concerned what GP will say but he knows I have my husband to care for and wasnt capable  .

Today I rang Sec of my theory who confirmed that my blood test done on Tuesday proves that my Esr had gone from 10 to 18in two weeks therefore confirming my symptoms. Whilst I know it is still in normal range proves also I feel that the 1preds I had been on for weeks w

Was after all doing its job. Sorry about my messages being split my little finger keeps getting in way of the Tablet. Will c own Doc next week. Feel more positive and still almost painless but comfortable so let's hope I caught in time. Thanks so much for all support.

It's trends that matter, no-one knows what YOUR normal ESR was - if my ESR was 18 it would be raised by about 500%! It's usually 4, the worst it has been was 7 - and I couldn't move.

All the best with your GP - and if they are not helpful, find another.

the best my Esr has been is 10and that was on 1preds daily. Then Rheumy says stop the 1 and three weeks later Esr back to 18 and I am in pain and stiffness. wish I had carried on with one it was ok. My GP is usually very good I will do the other blood test on Tuesday as arranged and go see Doc on Thursday when results should be in. Surely they will prove the surge to 18 from 10 warrants an upgrade to 2preds daily which is working well for me and will do the tapering method to get back to 1. Perhaps Esr will have started to go down again by then.

Hope so - that ESR of 10 or so is where you want to be and that is it nearly doubled already after 3 weeks and the crunch criterion of pain and stiffness. Good luck with the GP!

Follow up bold test shows my Esr down to 12 within 1week of it going up to 18 that's with taking 2preds daily for a week.It should say blood test folks. I have predicted txt.Must get grandchildren to sort out for me. Feeling happier and less painful. Not perfect but manageable. Thanks Eileen and everyone. Seeing Doc tomorrow .

Good - and I hope your GP will let you continue on 2mg and then you may well manage to get down to 1mg again. Will you see your rheumy again to thumb your nose at him? If only (hopefully) for the benefit of future patients.

Useful things grandkids! Mine helped me change my avatar to something that looked more like me now than the little old lady with frizzy hair of 3 years ago. My Italian mobile phone has predictive text - which of course is an utter pest if you want to use English! I know how to disable it but it does have a mind of its own - OH can't remember how to switch it off so refuses to text! That's his excuse at least!

well saw Doc today he was fine and said he would follow up Rhuemy for Esr info.Yes he agrees for me to stay on 2mg for a month and then go to 1mg and go back to see him then. However as we all know we don't just drop but taper off .I will certainly do that after this happened by just stopping. Feeling comfortable at the moment and Bowling again. Doc was sympathetic but only does his 10mins per patient. I diagnosed my last four weeks which helped him.Almost do the job for them sometimes. After all none of us wanted this complaint. But feeling more positive again .

I made a Diary of my last four weeks for him which helped. Not Diagnosed.I'm not the Doc haha.

Ten minutes of a sympathetic GP is better than half an hour of one that doesn't get it! If they spent a bit more time with the patient who needs it and got it right first time round they might find that patient doesn't come back every week for the next bite. I see my GP the day I need to - no appointments during surgery, turn up and wait - and if it is needed she spends half an hour or even more with you. It dissuades the people who don't really need her - people do use the pharmacist if appropriate - and you don't get cheap paracetamol or anything OTC on free prescription here. If you work you CAN get an appointment during the lunch break (it is 2 hours long!) or evening. AND she does house visits, they all do.

Good luck!

Yes Doc is ok we have a great practice and can always get an appointment if you ring early enough. Still progressing but don't want to take more than 2mg daily.Sticking to plan for trying tapering in a month.
