mirena coil for thickened lining

Hi ladies just looking for some advice. I had an ultrasound and have a thickened lining of my uterus and i have been having weeks of spotting (this has stopped for now) Anyway just before they tried to do a hysteroscopy to obtain a sample the Dr said i should have the mirena coil fitted which will help stop this thickening and stop my spotting and cramps. I consented but, she failed to get a sample or fit the coil as i was in agony. She stated i have stenosis of my cervix as ai have never had a vaginal birth only c sections. They tried 3 times and the pain was awful so i now have to have a GA and day surgery. Once home i read about the mirena coil and i am a little frightened as i had c sections as i have a funny shaped womb which prevented my babies from turning. So i have reads that the mirena coil can cause some women to have awful cramping and bleeding. So i was wondering if those women who have had bad experiences with the mirena coil had funny shaped wombs? Anyone? xx

hi, i had same thing and got the Mirena fitted with GA 3 years ago. was best thing ever, never had cramps or bleeding. would recommend that you try it and persevere for at least 6 months. am told easy to remove if necessary

Hi Amanda, I hear your concerns. I had mirena fitted twice. Firs time a gp put it in all by herself without any help she was so good I didn’t feel much pain. But it was a bit more painful second time round in a different gp with someone helping too. I have c section like you. But I guess your uterus being a different shape may effect it. I haven’t had any bad experience with it in each time I had it. I still have it in me and all seems to be fine. All the best. I hope it will be the best option for you.
