Mirena coil - your experiences please.

Hi ladies,

Ive been given the option of having a mirena coil fitted as i had to stop hrt tablets due to having fibroids. I cant understand why thegynae has suggested the coil as its still a hormone and will make my fibroids grow. The point of stopping hrt was to shrink my fibroids!

Anyone else on the mirena coil and also have fibroids? Just want members experiences of using the coil please.

Hi Elaine. I've never had the mirena coil however i'm on bioidentical prescription HRT by my own choice. I know fibroids are due to oestrogen dominance and that they are tackled with natural progesterone (eg. Utrogestan).

Hi, avoid at all costs,I have a fibroid and was advised to get it for irregular bleeding but had it in for a year and spotted for year before I said enough is enough,they said keep it in a while longer,I said no,did not make my periods lighter,and put on 3 stone so no I would not recommend hope this helps x

I have two friends who are on the mirena coil and they swear by it. It stopped their periods but they haven't had any side effects such as weight gain etc.

I dont think i will risk it as it may make my fibroids grow. Really cant understand why the gynae suggested it? I have no faith in these consultants never mind the doctors!
