Mirena Coil

I have been told I need a general anesthetic for a biopsy, this was 2 weeks ago and I'm still awaiting my appt nervously. The consultant said I should have the coil fitted at the same time as it will stop the lining become thick? I really don't fancy the coil at all. I suffer with migraines and I'm concerned these will get worse and also concerned about the constant spotting of the coil until it settles in. Can anyone advise if they have had a GA for the biopsy and how long results take plus has anyone had the coil fitted and their experience please? Thank you

What's the biopsy for if you don't mind me asking?.

I had an abnormal smear in November last year followed by a colposcopy, my results were severe high grade abnormalities CN3. They booked me in for a general anaesthetic on 3January this year (took some womb and cervix). I've not had a coil by the way! I had my results three weeks later. I got the all clear and have to Ho back in July for another smear.

To check for cancer due to the lining of the womb being thick plus heavy bleeding. Thank you for replying.

Hi Tracey, I had a biopsy under local anaesthetic due to heavy bleeding. You're lucky to be getting GA. A mireana coil was spoken about also. I had tge results in less than a week. Turned out I had endometrial cancer, early stage. I've had surgery and halfway through radiotherapy with a good prognosis. I'm 45.

Hi so sorry to hear your news but also positive it was caught early and treated quickly. Can I ask what your symptoms were other than heavy bleeding? I wish you a good recovery x

I was anaemic, had fatigue and leg cramps.

I should mention my friend had a hysteroscopy due to heavy bleeding and had the mireana coil fitted and she is delighted with it.

I had a Marina coil for 6 years for heavy bleeding. I had no spotting at all and that was the end of my periods. I was very happy with it.

That's good to know. Thank you
