Could anyone tell me if there is a dose of Mirt (no matter how small) which does not cause weight gain please?
No. I was taking 7 mg and after a few weeks gained 10 1bs and started noticing every day I gained about .6 ounces and that was with about 1200 calories a day and an hour of treadmill about 4 x a week.
I'd claim that it's not inevitable since I've been on 30mg for 6 years and my weight hasn't altered. I know weight gain is a frequent side-effects but it doesn't always happen. The only side-effects I've had are a dry mouth and vivid dreams - which are quite entertaining!
Hi Lorraine,
as far as I know Mirt always causes weight gain, especially in the lower doses and in the beginning.
But if you live in Canada, the US or Europe there is a new med out now that works like Mirtazapine, but without the weight gain. It's called Trintellix/Brintellix. Ask your doc. I've been taking Mirt for about 6 weeks and gained 2 lbs while strictly dieting and exercising. After being on Trintellix for about 5 days now I've lost those 2 lbs plus another one.
