Mirtazapine 15

I have been on mirtazapine 15 mg a night I wake ups but out of it and been sleepy all day and very tired is how is and does it get better or not

I was the same on 15mg. I had had no sleep for months so this was welcomed. After 7 days it was increased to 30mg, sleep pattern was better. Not so sleepy. More functional. Hope this helps. You don't say why or how long you have been on 15mg.

For the first few days yes, but your body does gets used to it.

Mirt contains a sedative, once you're used to it - it may wear off by the morning, although for me I could feel the sedation 24/7, but st the beginning that's what I needed.

Hi Calmer, how are you? Are you off the mirt yet?

My Doc says it takes time for your body to adjust.

I took half a tablet from day 2 and am now trying to get off it completely

Hi Evergreen

As good as off, like you I went right down to 0.01 for a week, then every other day, then every 3 days ... so my sleep aid has all but gone now, last few nights I have been sleeping about 6 hours  ... so hoping this remains the same and improves.  Another lady said it took her 2 weeks for her sleep to return after doing the same slow taper, fingers crossed.

How are you??  Improved since the tapering ??  Hope so, quite a challenge to get off it.

That's sounding very positive, Calmer. I'm fine and don't miss the ADs at all, but I am sadly still on sleeping pills. I also have a lot of physical issues and am not well. Can't seem to digest food and am as skinny as a rake.

Hi Julie...My doctor as just put me on 15mg. mitrazipine. How long have you been on it and what side effects do you have

Hi Calmer, why have you come off it ?

For the first 7 days i was on 15mg at night for sleep. I was out for about 12 hrs solid( took it at 9pm) after the first night. After that i was sleeping for about 8-10 hrs (again took it about 9 at night) each night . Side effects were just hungry and thirsty all the time. But i was told to expect this so no biggie. When it went up to 30mg sleep pattern evened out so i get a regular 8-9 hrs sleep, sometimes its fitful but most times fine. I was on 30mg for 4 weeks then upped to 45.mg and that was 2 weeks ago. Only side effects are sometimes a lightheadedness every now and then but my appetite is stable now and my exercising is keeping weight stable. I am settled for now and have had a full week without anxiety attacks - even though i have had some drama going on 😊. so good for now. X

Oh bless youu, thats not good ... I have read a lot of folk have digestion troubles following Mirt.  Ive had quite a lot of heartburn/indegestion and really have to work hard at making sure I chew  A LOT ... and much more fluids than I want to drink.  But thats improving I think.

Hope you find a remedy for that, any clues ??

Hi Ang

My p.doc advised me to take the AD for a minimum of 6 months, preferably a year whilst doing various courses, therapy, CBT, Mindfulness.  My problem was major insomnia which brought on hurrendous anxiety and then depression, just spiralled ...

So I gave myself a year; afterall, AD's only really act as a sticking plaster to cover the problem area ... then I think its our responsibility to do the work on ourselves whilst under the protection or influence of the AD - Mirt having a heavy sedative was just what I needed at the time, but couldn't or wouldn't want to live with that sedation for ever.  Not to mention the weight gain ...ugh !

You know that strangeky I hadn't even thought it could be due to mirtazapine. My main problem has been lack of appetite brought on by the stress of an unhappy home. But then when I started to gain my appetite I have been struck with nausea, bloating and pain. I am now below the recommended minimum BMI and my weight keeps plummeting. I think most of it is stress related but hard to understand how that can cause so much pain. But what you have said about mirt makes me wonder if it's been a contributing factor. I do wish now I had never gone on it on balance.
