Mirtazapine 7.5mg and Citalopram 10mg - Safe?

So I had been on Citalopram for about 5 years - worked well for mood but not for my anxiety.

I realised that after an initial anxiety trigger, my anxiety would then become about not sleeping, losing weight and not eating - and I discovered Mirtazapine which handles that issue really well! So yes, I still get anxious about stuff, but the Mirt stops it from spiralling. Great!

So I’ve been tapering off Cit and have noticed that my mood has become quite low - feel a bit irritable and angry as well.

Only been on Mirt 7.5mg for a month, and also tapering down Cit from 20mg to, well, 5mg if I can cut the pill nicely! Could the low mood be just a short term effect?

I’m worried about serotonin syndrome when taking both, but does dose effect risk?

E.g. could I look to take 10mg Cit (for mood) and 7.5mg Mirt (for anxiety) and it be safe?

Hi,

I believe you should really speak to your doctor about your concerns or if for some reason you can’t get to a doctor then at least a pharmacist.

What suits one person might not suit another and I think on forums we cannot diagnose or recommend medication dosage, it would not be wise.

OK so I got told last Wednesday that I’d be fine on 10mg Cit and 7.5 Mirt. But …

Had a big wobble Friday. Feelings of anxiety hit me hard and I’m still struggling now :frowning:

Problem is I’m confused as to why and what to do:

  • Was it caused by me taking Cit again at 10mg on top of Mirt?
  • Is it still me getting used to Mirt?
  • Should I up the dose of Mirt / stop Cit?

Total minefield! I can’t tell whether it’s just me, or one of the drugs, or both drugs together causing the issue.
