Hello, I have been taking Sertraline for anxiety for 3 1/2 years. I used to take 50mg, now on 75mg a day.
Here's the thing: on Sertraline I have no emotions. I cut down on the Sertraline a few months ago, from 75mg, and after 4 weeks on 50mg I started to feel human again. Unfortunately, the anxiety came back, and it was so bad that I went back up to 75mg.
I was recently put on Mirtazapine as well as the Sert., which seems to be fine. No real weight gain, sleeping well, etc. But I really want to cut down on the Sertraline again, this time hoping that because I'm also taking Mirtazapine, the anxiety should not be noticable.
Has anyone had any experience of this? It's hard to know what influence Mirt. has on anxiety when I'm already on a drug that alleviates anxiety. But I am so fed up with feeling like an emotional zombie.
Hi chris, i too was on sertraline and mirtazapine, sertraline first which stopped the anxiety and mirtazapine for sleep and eating problems.
My psychiatrist told me that the mirtazapine was not really used for anxiety. I am no longer on mirtazapine as after a few weeks it stopped working in the sleep department, i am still on sertraline gone from 50mg to 25mg and trying to come off it slowly. I did reduce it to one 25mg every other day but was plagued with anxiety again. I guess i withdrew too quickly. I have found that sertraline has helped me and mirtazapine gave me my appetite back. hi hope this helps im on mirtazapine 30 mg, been taking it for 3 years,also i take propananol 3 times a day this is too help with anxiety also been on this for 3 years.the 2 together seem too help most of the time for sleep i sometimes need too take a zoplicone.your sleeping pattern may vary too start with but give it a few weeks and it should steady itself with the mirtazapine. just watch the possible weight gain,when i was first hospitalised nearly 4 years ago i weighed 11 stone very thin and quite ill ,i was in and out of hospital for 2 years for months at atime.now since being on the mirtazapine i weigh 17 stone and comfortable with that, i just try too balance my diet with good fresh food and not over doingit.hope you feel better soon doorby35
Thank you both very much for taking the time to reply. I have just today discontinued an increase in the Sertraline after a week of really bad dizziness. I was disappointed to hear that Mirtazapine might not help the anxiry, because I wanted to try to cut down on the Sert to 50mg and rely on the Mirt to prevent the anxiety.
