Hi
I have been on Mirtazapine for 11 days and since the first one I took have been so drowsy it has been awful. It doesn't seem to matter if I take them later or earlier in the evening I am still asleep almost all the time. Does this wear off after a while.
Also I have found that I am trying to lose some weight, but my appetite has gone mad and I find myself eating anything I can get hold of or want to and think about food the whole time. Also I drink lots of water but get water retention too. Does this stay like this the whole time.
Has anyone else found these extremes and what have they done.
Thanks
Hi Jaz
I've been on mirt now for nearly a month, the sleepyness does ware off after about 2 weeks but we're all different and the referance to eating yes this is a very comon side effect to mirt and i eat loads not a bad thing in my case but if your trying to lose weight subsitue with healthy snacks like fruit, nuts, raw vegtables ect. and avoid bad things and limit your carbohydrates like bread and potatoes it's ok to eat them in moderation like with your main meal but avoid snacking on them.
Hope this helps
Mike
Hi Jaz, I was on Mir for around 7 weeks, after changing from Flouexitine which didn't help my depression at all. I was really drowsy the 1st couple of weeks, which was hard - I could barely wake up in the mornings and felt drugged up most of the day. My GP recommended these to help me sleep as I have terrible insomnia. I experimented with different times and found a time in the evening when I could get to sleep at a normal time! In the 1st month or so, I put on around 7lbs, which is bad for me as I have spent 2 years losing weight! Then a couple of weeks ago my GP increased my dose from 15mg to 30mg to help improve my mood and I put on another 4lbs in a week! The other side effect I had was that my brain just stopped working - the wrong word comes out of my mouth, which my kids think is hilarious, but its so frustrating! Its like having a brain stammer. So I plucked up courage to tell my GP these pills don't suit me and I'm trying 2 weeks with nothing. I've already lost 3lbs and intend to lose the whole lot. I've read loads of accounts for these pills and they obviously help some peope, but for me, the weight gain seriously outweighed the minor gain I had from better sleep. I think these pills are fine for people who have lost loads of weight thru stress or depression, but for the rest of us, the weight gain isn't good - especially if image/weight issues contribute to your low mood, which they do with me! Not sure if this helps, but just wanted you to know I know hoe you feel about the drowsiness and weight gain.
Hi \"Elvis\"
It's good to know that someone is experiencing the same problems, I go to WW and reached target weight twice quite easily but this time I managed to lose 8 lbs then went on these Mirt and put over 2 lbs on in just over a week as I am hungry all the time. That never used to be the case, once I had had my points I was full, I could eat all the time now. I like you am not happy with this and as they are not really working anyway I am going to try and ask my doctor for somethine else. Its funny how we are frightened of telling them how we feel. The weight is making me feel more down so it isn't worth it. Also the tiredness is not good, I have been told by my partner to come off them as I look as though I am in a trance half the time! I am on other tablets that interract with most other things and that is why they wanted to try these, but if they are not right for you you shouldn't have to put up with these things. I will just grit my teeth and beg for something else - and something to eat
