Mirtazapine Withdrawal

i have been off mirtazapine 15mg for 6 weeks after taking it for a year. i have constant nausea, anxiety and insomnia. I cant eat and have lost a lot of weight. i cant go to work, I’m starting to get really depressed. My Gp doesnt seem to understand what Im going through. At least being on Mirtazapine I could function and have some semblance of a life. Should I go back on it?

Why did you come off it ? Did you taper ?

I was on 7.5 mirtazapine and dropped to 3.75 for 5 days, I was off 31 days and had to reinstate due to bad withdrawal, I went back to 7.5 for 2 weeks and felt better, then my doc cut me to 3.75 for 31 days and I feel ok, the first couple weeks had some bad days but it got better, I am going to 1.87 soon and hopefully get off this med, I read if things get to bad go back to previous dose and taper more slowly, hope you feel better soon

Hi Sarah

You have a private message from me.

No, the Gp switched me to Amitriptyline and said I wouldnt therefore need to taper, however after being on that for 5 weeks, a different Gp moved me to a different medication (for migraine) as that affected HRT medication. Appreciate you responding.

thank you fir responding. I'll go back on and taper properly next time. Its interesting as my GP said after 5 weeks the mirtazapine would be totally out my system but looking on here, there seems to be lots of people still getting kick back weeks after they stop.

my doctor said the same to me week 4 got bad and week 5 was horrible he said it wasn't wd but after reading about it I think it was, I wish I would have stuck it out a little longer cause now I have to go through it again, only hoping that it's better this time, cutting down to 1.87 tomorrow

i am kinda thinking that I might just resign myself to staying on it as this is torture. Would you not consider this too? Good luck though and it would be great if you could keep me posted on how you go. It always helps to know someone understands what you are going through. Good luck.

I suffered terribly do not suffer I did I left it for weeks n weeks thinking it wasn't withdrawals n I would get over it. I didn't sleep for 3 weeks didn't eat cried constantly was in total despair . I collapsed in bathroom gasping for air out window I was taken too doctors n mental health crisis team was called they thought I would have too be hospitalised I was terrified. However they came too my home day n night gave me diazapam too calm down n zopiclone too sleep within a fortnight I was so much better. They said I was gasping for air it was a massive panic attack I've never had one in my life. I'm not trying too scare you it might not happen too you all I'm saying is don't leave it if u feel these symptoms of nausea n insomnia not passing in s couple of days get help. Please don't leave it I was on it mitrazapine 10months I came off over 12 weeks n it was too quick I was on 45mg down to 30mg then 15mg too 0 xx

wow, that sounds exactly like my symptoms. i'm so sorry you had to go through that. How are you doing now?

Ive been off mitrazipine for two days now to switch over to citalopram. Im getting really strange tingling sensations over my body. Has anyone else experienced this n for how long?

I'm doing good now thank goodness and back at work. I can honestly say I have never been so scared in my life and I can understand when people take their own lives I was so very close. I kept going too gp but 100% should of been seen by someone urgent at mental health sooner and it wouldn't of been as bad as it was. The crisis team were absolutely fantastic with me n told me they would get me better and they 100% did their job. Now I know If I ever got that ill again I'd go straight too gp n demand mental health intervenes asap xxxxx

Hey Karen did u experience tingly sensations overr ur chest and arms etc coming off mirtz

No I had really bad restless legs n when I got up after sitting down I walked like a 90 year old hobbling along. I suffer insomnia now off mitrazapine xx

Hi Karen,, did you have to reinstate to get better or did you just "ride through" the withdrawal and eventually get better? My psychiatrist has taken me straight off Mirtazapine 15mg and straight onto Amitriptyline. It has been 4 weeks now and still not too great. She said I wouldn't get withdrawal coming off 15m to 0mg mirtazapine . If i know it is withdrawal it would be reassuring to know it will pass without reinstating as I can't now I am on Amitrytyline. Would very much appreciate your advice. It has been he'll.

Hi I came off 45mg mitrazapine it was hell. I didn't get help soon enough I was in a pretty bad way I've never been so scared in my life. The crisis team gave me diazapam for 3 days 3 times a day then twice a day for 3 days and then one a day for 3 days. They also gave me zopiclone too sleep because at that point I hadn't slept for 3 weeks. They put me in venlafaxine it had too be upped over the following weeks and I got better in the end. But get help I didn't and suffered. Xx

Thank you so much for your advice Karen! Can you let me know how long it took you to get better when you started on the Venlafaxine? I had typed a more detailed message to you Karen but it seems to have disappeared . Quite shaky so will give more info later as you say it's good to warn people the dangers of withdrawal. x

I got better pretty quick as soon as the diazapam calmed me down n sleeping tablets gave me bk my sleep and I started on venlafaxine I felt better within 3 weeks then I kinda didn't feel so good again and they upped my venlafaxine and I just kept getting better. I'd say about 8 weeks I was bk too my normal self apart from the insomnia this has been my main problem the doctors have gave me different sleeping meds. But I just want too sleep.osleep.on my own without meds xx

I also stopped drinking alcohol because when I did I noticed my depression would creep no in now if I'm out socialising I just have a wine spritzer xxx

That's so good you are back to normal Karen yes It is a nightmare to go through. I as you know was abruptly stopped at 15mg and I am beginning to feel better on the higher dose Amitryptyline. Hope you can find a new natural that can help with your sleep. God bless and thank you so mi much for all the info support ! xc **
