Missed doses of Mirtazapine - is it safe to continue taking?

Hi,

I am on 30mg mirtazapine and drank a lot on Friday so didn't take my pill. Then on Saturday evening I was still hungover so didn't take my pill and last night I was really tired so was not sure if I had taken it but I slept terribly so assume I did not - just didn't want to double dose.

I have been having anxiety attacks about taking the pill and can't breathe properly and feel sick and am really worried about whether it is okay to take the pill again after missing it for 3 days - I usually miss it once or twice a week due to drinking.

I am aware it's not encouraged to miss the pill because it messes with my hormones, but is it dangerous to take it again eg. will it give me a heart attack etc.

Please reply ASAP

Many thanks

I'm sure it's not dangerous for you to start taking the mirtazapine again. BUT what I would be worried about is the drinking and missing pills - that could be seriously mucking with your body. If you want to give the mirtazapine a chance to help you, you need to take it every day and cut down on the booze. Sorry to be blunt! If you are taking Mirtazapine for depression and/or anxiety, you may need to take it regularly for several weeks to notice the benefit.

Try not to mix drinking and taking Mirtazapine. Initially, drinking can make you feel less troubled, but in the end, it will lead to increased deperession and anxiety, especially when you are hungover the next day.

I can speak from personal experience.

Stick to the Mirtazapine exactly as presribed. I take three types of pills for my mental well being. They do work, but only if I take them as precribed. I keep a medication and drinks diary and these helps me.

Taking pills on their own is not a magic cure. Moderating drinking and sticking to a routine also helps.

Couldn't agree more with Shinkansen; just wonder if your chasing the depression (which may well be caused by alcohol) with the

anti-depressent. Vicious circle.

If you are having full blown anxiety attacks, and it doesn't get much worse than that ... maybe you should think about taking one or the other - because long term it will be harming yourself to take both.

Anxiety attacks are very frightening, and I am sorry for your suffering, I hope you may be a little kinder to yourself, and find a way to ease the suffering, may you find a way to live with ease.

Wishing you well.
