I had a large DVT in January and still have a 3cm clot behind my knee. The last week I have had breathlessness on and off as well as chest pains and elevated heart rate.
I had a VQ scan but they did not find any clots.
Is it possible the clot was missed on the VQ scan? They did not want to do a CT because I am only 21 and they were worried about radiation.

My daughter was only 20 when she had her DVT. ( and is called Ellie!) And it is always worth getting it checked out properly as it could be that a PE was missed. In her case it turned out to be anxiety eg a panic attack ( which she developed after her DVT) but nobody was angry with us for having it properly checked out. We went to the GP who sent us to A &E straight away. It was def worth doing and everybody took us seriously as a PE can be fatal as I am sure you know. So if symptoms are still there go now!!! You'll be glad you did. 😊

I have just recovered from a massive pe in my left lung & several smaller ones in the right. Due to the size it has taken my body 10 months to lose continuous breathing difficulties.
I was first diagnosed March 2016 with a dvt in my leg. The following day I had a ctpa with showed several pe,s in both lungs. After 6 months on dalteparin I recovered very well.
Because I came off the meds after 6 months I soon developed more pe,s in my lungs. As said above.
Please go back & let your GPs that you are still very concerned. I have had 3 CTPA,s over the last 18 months. They show immediately if there is a problem. You have to weigh up the benefits against the risks against your fears.
Since I began with all this the NHS Consultants have discovered I have a propensity to clot.
Hope this helps a little. If you mind is disturbed by it all you need to speak to you GP.
The secret is finding out what is exactly going on & researching all you can.
Different folk take different times to recover.
