Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is an abnormal bulging of one or both of the mitral valve leaflets into the left atrium during ventricular systole.1 MVP is defined on echocardiography as single or bileaflet prolapse of at least 2 mm, with or without leaflet thickening.2
