Has anyone had their knee bent later than 17 weeks? If so what was the outcome?
My surgeon has never recommended it to me yet.But I am really struggling to get more bend than 100, even though I am having 2 physios a week(hard ones as well) also I do 3 sessions a day myself, & get so frustrated when not much result
How are you on exercise bike? Are you able to get a full turn of the pedals
A neighbour (not a friend though so I can't comment in more detail) of mine did not have her knee bent until about a year after the original op. When I see her now she is walking normally.
Hi Lynn
I had my 1st TKR manipulated 5 months later under general anaesthetic. It had got to the stage where I couldn't put my feet flat on the floor, or bend it particularly well. When I came to in recovery I was already on the CPM machine and used its emulator for the 2 days I was in hospital. It really did make a difference and my knee then stated toimproveI had my 2nd TKR 16 weeks ago and am hoping that I won't have the same problems this time.
Hope that helps.
I saw my surgeon after 5 weeks and he said the optimal time to do the manipulation is between 3 and 6 months. He said that before that tissue is still forming and will bleed causing more scarring. In the meantime I am continuing on as you are, and I think I'm at about 95 now and 7 weeks.
Thanks for your reply.
I can not do a full turn on my exercise bike yet, but bought a peddle machine , as radius of pedals is less. I am hoping to achieve full turn on the pedals eventually.

Hi patyrose,
Thank you, that was useful to know. So did you just continue with the stretching & bending exercises when you got home, or did you still have to use the cmp machine for a while, to keep the same bend?By the way, what bend did you have before & after the manipulation.
Hope you can get good movement with the second one & won't need the manipulation again.
Thanks for the info. So I still have another month or so to see if I can get more bend, if not I think it will be manipulation
Hope yours improves so as you son't need it.
Lynn
Not for bend but for straightening. I also had s plaster cast for 3 weeks but you won't need that for bend. Trouble is I went back to square one with the bend but six weeks down the line I'm back to 120 degrees and still improving.
Best of luck and keep doing the exercises at least twice a day and wobble as far as possible.
