More antibotics for infection

Hi All

Went back to gp and now have two lots of antibotics for infections.

However,im even more confused as she told me its rather bumpy to touch not the scar but the infected area. Consultant had also written to gp and like the consultants appointment i then felt as if gp was dismissing my concerns.

Now unsure what to do...do i get second opinion or leave it ???

Feel like a fraud yet again 😓

Hi Dee

I'm so sorry to hear about how poorly you have been recently and that you are on more anti-biotics. The doctor is obviously being careful to treat the infection but unfortunately they can make you feel pretty low apart from all you are dealing with getting better after a major operation.

You are not a fraud, you have been through a lot over the last few weeks and you just want to get better. So if it helps you to see the doctor again make an appointment. Make a list of things you want to say and tell your doctor how you are feeling and your worries, don't be afraid to ask questions. That is what they are there for, to get you better.

Take care Denise and I hope you will soon be feeling better

Hi dee,

Sorry to hear you've not been told exactly what's going on.

With the infection you will have a temperature which will make you feel poorly too.

I suggest you wait a few days to give chance for the antibiotics to have affect and then go back to gp if you still feel unsure about what's going on and take someone with you so they can ask questions and remember what is said to you to give you support and help you understand.

It is routine for consultant to send letter to gp of your op with exact details of type of op, joint etc so gp can treat you if need be or take into account if treating for something else.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

Hello Denise,

Well, at least the gp took your concerns seriously enough to start you on two different antibiotics to fight the infection. What puzzles me is why they did not start you on IV antibiotics at the start of the infection. Surgeons dread infection and try to do all they can to prevent it, but sh*t happens sometimes and normally they are very aggressive with their treatment.  Has anyone done a culture of the infected area? If antibiotics haven't helped they need to find out exactly what bacteria they are dealing with so they can choose the antibiotics that are most effective against that specific strain.

Never feel bad about getting the help you feel you need. It's your body after all.

As linnet said, infections & antibiotics both can take a tole on you and leave you feeling  drained. Get all the rest you can and drink, lots of fluids!

wishing you quick healing and recovery
