More gains on AD possible after 3 months?

I have anhedonia/depersonization/blank mind.

I'm back on Mirtazapine (tried many others) which I have only taken for 3 months in the past, it was around this stage I had made some gains in my depression with emotions, the odd thought (so less of a blank mind/anhedonia) but i had a long way to go. Circumstances meant I couldn't stay on the medication at the time.

My question is after the therapeutic level "6-8" weeks which for me more 12, is there longer term gains and improvements? all i can find is articles talking about 6-8 weeks, nothing mentions if staying on this medication short, medium or long term will give longer gains than the ones you see at 6-8 weeks, does anyone have experience with this?

(reason this is important is i have no inner monologue and Mirtazapine was giving me the odd thought back but it was few and far between but better than never, i just wonder if this would keep on getting better or if that was 'my lot'..)

Thanks

Generally speaking the longer we take a suitable medication the more the medication will build up in our bodies.

For example I am quite stable generally and the attitude my GP takes is if it is not broke do not fix it, the body begins to settle as time goes by and generally side effects do seem to reduce. I take medications for a disability and associated depression, I also have a Chronic short term memory disorder, generally I just mooch along day by day as my disability waxes and wains, my mood is generally quite flat, that seems what they wish to achieve.

Like you My memory makes me forget what I have done the day before although my mid term memory as my long term memory seem to remain.

Medications you take need about six weeks or so to get into your body, you will then hopefully settle and will achieve the effect they wish to achive. If the medications are working carry on with the drug, however I would advise that you do not let yourself become sensitized to the medication side effects, try and move on with the medication and forget it is there. That is what I have done. It took them two years to get me settled to multiple medications including opiates, I leave well alone and get on with my life

Remember !!!

If it is not broke do not fix it

Good Luck

Hi crk.

A. d. information as a rule tend to say improvement seen generally around the 6-8 wk mark, yet personally i find its around the 12 + mark before i feel any benefit properly , or not as to wether they are going to work.

I wouldnt wait longer than 3mths as i think thts ample tym for the meds to have worked their magic so to speak.

Try giving them a little longer only if u feel you are able and to, if not see ur gp for advice. Good luck x
