I asked you all a few weeks ago about the pain in my toe - thanks for all your answers.
I have now been to see my GP and as Eileen diagnosed he thinks it may be gout and I am to have further blood tests on the 16th November.
I also have been put on extra medication and I would be grateful if anyone could let me know if they have had any ( no matter how embarrassing) side effects from taking any of the following:
Naproxen - I am apparently taking this anti inflammotiry until I get the results of my gout
Omeprazole - This is to help any effects the Naproxen apparently may have on my gut
Amlodipine - this is for my blood pressure - before I started on predisilone 2 years ago I was taking 2.5mg of Ramipril but in the last 6 months my blood pressure is getting higher and higher to the point I am now on 10mgs of ramipril and my blood pressure is still high so the GP has put me on these tablets as well( rather worried that my blood pressure hasnt come down with just the ramipril especially as I am now only on 6.5mg of pred and looking to start a reduction down to 6mg - I use Eileens very slowly slowly approach and find it works for me)
I would be so grateful if anyone could advise me and I look forward to hearing from you
Hi Maureen a few months ago I also had pain in Toe, Doc said Gout and prescribed tablets, when I got home checked out side effects possible and decided against them. Massaged toe for two days with Ibuprofen gel and pain disappeared and so far not appeared again. Hope this may help in some way .
Keep to Eileens slow reduction it is invaluable, I am on 1 pred alternate days and have been for a month now but sometimes take 1mg for 3days just about managing but tops of legs at back are main problem when going from sitting to standing once up am ok though. All of us go through trial and error stages if my Esr blood test next week has not altered I will stop Pred and wait and see how I go. I have a beta blocker for blood pressure and it appears to be best for me.Good luck
Thanks for that - I have taken the tablets since Monday and the pain has almost gone - but worry about side effects that is why I was asking what if any anybody had had - but I will bear in mind the ibuprofen
Thanks for your help and the advise about your reduction - hope all keeps going well for you
I used naproxen years ago for migraine. Eventually I had an incident where I had a serious gastric event with considerable pain (I actually had to miss work for a day) and was already taking another drug to counteract the gastric effects of the naproxen. It was an amazing drug for relieving pain, but I no longer take it nor will chance its otc version Aleve. So make sure you ALWAYS have food when you take naproxen and don't mix with any other drug, like aspirin, that might harm your stomach. I think this is why it is contraindicated for taking with prednisone which is also hard on the stomach.
I have the very occassional gout attack and take Colchesine (sp??). It is an age old remedy for gout that I have found very effective once you know how to use it. For me it's take 2 tabs as soon as you feel the gout starting and then 2 more during the day (4 hrs apart). If I don't notice an improvement I take more but stop as soon as I do because it is toxic and you'll end up spending a lot of time in the bathroom.
I cannot take naproxen and you're not really supposed to with prednisone. A stomach bleed is not a good thing😬.
Luckily, the prednisone has had little affect on my blood pressure. I take Losartin (50mg Losartin and 12.5mg of hydrochlorathiazide) daily.
I hope you get helpful answers from the forum and are on the mend soon. PMR is bad enough to deal with.
I was on naproxin because the dr who i first saw said i had osteoarthritis in my joints, when it was PMR. So the weeks i was on it it did nothing.
I had 1 toe that gave me excruciating pain and no it wasn't gout. I saw a podiatrist after my GP and it was she that said i had some form of arthritis and for the Dr. to look more serious into other not diagnosis not ostio.
She mentioned psoriasis arthritis possibly for the toe and rumatoid for my other pain. Once on prednisone it is getting better and wearing my orthodontics has helped immensely.
Hi Maureen. I took Omeprazole for gastric reflux for just over a year. During this time, I was suffering from severe palpitations. When I also developed a constantly fast pulse rate, I even saw a heart speciallist. Nobody connected anything to Omeprazole, even though they had an up to date list of my medications. When, later last year, I had a gastroscopy and was found to have an ulcer, they changed my medication from Omeprazole to Pantoprazole and hey presto, no more palpitations and normal pulse! Not saying this to scare you. Just so that you are aware of possible side effects to watch for. Hopefully you will be side effect free. Good luck, Debbie
Thanks for your message - I am worried about taking Omeprazole I dont know if I am having gastric reflus but sometimes I feel like there is a ball of air coming up from my tummy in my oesaphagus to my throat and it can be quite sore, only for a few seconds
I dont know what the symptoms of an ulcer are - could you please let me know
I too have had palpitations, even when I wasnt taking omeprazole and also my blood pressure was quire high and wouldnt come down with higher doses of ramipril so I am now on 10mgs of Ramipril and something else beginning with a but cant remember what it is - my blood pressure is now coming down but my pulse rate is still quite high at anything between 89 -98
I would appreciate if you could tell me the symptoms of an ulcer
