More pain and misery!

I'm 6 weeks post op for major prolapse surgery and have been doing really well, obviously taking it steady and resting a lot. This week have felt like getting out and driving. Today just popped to the local shop in the car and now in lots of pain didn't overdo it or so I thought, feel like I've gone back to week 3. What have I done? I've gone back to bed with some painkillers and it's my birthday😞

Oh bless you Terri.. Firstly happy birthday!!!! It must be upsetting feeling like you have gone backwards, but just rest up today and chill if you can.

Our bodies have a way of telling us to slowed down.I don't you have done anything.what surgery did you have.I'm 9 days anterior repair, and doing well. I'm doing zero, and intend to continue for a while yet this way.hugs to you.xx

Hi Terri, happy Birthday did you build up to going out? I remember the same fealings after my hystorectomy pain and upset with myself I think  you need to take it easy and small walks a day first, matron will be on at some point today and will help with your questions.I am 8days after the operation and have done very little till this morning and I walked on the drive stood had a conversation with a frend and needed to go back to bed for a lay down.

we are all different what operation did you have love?

It was an infracocygeal sacropexy, anterior and enterocele repair for complete vault prolapse just to give it the technical name!!!!

Happy Birthday Terri, hope your feeling better. I think we underestimate all the time what we do. If go back to doctors if experiencing a lot of pain. Maybe ask for a scan to see what's going on! I did and found have a haematoma! Take care x

Hi, I am not sure what the first bit is? But the back I understand I have had A&P and some scaring that didn't heal from the last operation. I to had the prolapse pushing through the vagina which was scary.

i would lay down love feet elevated take some codeine and rest for an hour if no better ring the doc, we're is the pain?

You use your pelvic floor muscles when you drive terri. Did you do the test I always recommend (and recommended by Urogynaecologists) to check you are healed enough to drive?

Happy birthday terri. You'll have to celebrate when you feel better 🎂🎉

it feels like pressure pain over the whole pelvic vault area, I've had it before so I think I've pulled where the new scar tissue is forming, I've probably overstretched or something, my poor bladder has gone into spasm!

Matron how are you today, you give lots of good advice but we don't seem to ask you what sort of day you are having

Happy birthday Terri hope you feel better soon xx Rest up and listen to your body... I didn't feel up to driving until around 8 weeks I think it was we are all just so different in our recovery.  All the literature says from around 6 weeks or so I think but it's when you feel you can do an emergency stop.   Rest up and hope you feel better soon xxx

That's kind of you Gillian. Another busy day sat at my laptop finishing off some work for my local NHS Trust but I'm well thank you. How are you today?

Hi Terri, not been on this forum for a while as I too experienced worst pain again at 6 weeks actually it was an internal at my six week check up that started it off or so I thought. I went back to my specialist and he asked me aload of questions and basically i had jkust got back into the swing of things way too soon. Unfortunately I had returned to work supposedly graduated return 4hrs a day but after 3 days i found that I was working more hours even more hours than I normally did just trying to catch up on the back log of work and fixing the stuff ups that others attempting my job had mistakenly created. By then  my boss was acting (and still is to some extent) as if I was 100% ok and back on board full time. So hardly surprising it all caught up with me. My specialists advised that the wounds are still healing and the stitches still tightening and thats why we can get new pains. Apparently a scar heals at 1% a day so even with best results that would be 100 days or 12 weeks. I am now stuck back working full time and try and rest up when I get home. Been back full time for 3 weeks and still exhausted most nights and it rally aches if I over do it but more importantly the new pain was gone last week and I thought I would share that with you hope it helps. If you can help it don't go back to work till at least week 8 and then hopefuly someone will have done your work while you were away. It really goes get better and I believe the ache is there to tell us to rest up when we over do it. It does get me down even now but I am still positive that all will be well and it will all be worth while. Icepack and feet up work  best  to relieve ache. As does not sitting for more than an hour at my desk before getting up and going for a cuppa, even 10 mins helps. Minding my grandson on tuesdays is a real challenge and I really ache after that. It is a long day almost 12 hrs and I do have to lift him in and out of the car seat and change table if we go outbut I cope. I have even done some gardening. My specialist showed me how to brace down there just before and during the lifts and I think this helps. Happy healing. Luv xx PS I found voltaren rapid gave me enough relief to sleep at night as the pain was mainly in my bottom.

PS forgot Hope you had a terrific birthday and were spoilt rotten xxx

my car is an automatic and I feel able to perform an emergency stop ok. Ive been building up my activity over the last few days a we've just had a new kitchen put in so there's been some clearing up to do, I've probably been to eager to move on which is pretty typical for me!!!!

Feeling fresh, a bit of acking but to be expected done a little walk no codeine yesterday onwards and upwards

That is really kind sharing your experience, this lady needs someone who shared the same problem, how many weeks are you back at work now?

Thanks to everyone for your kind advice it's good to know I'm not alone. I'm planning to go back to work at the end of May or beginning of June as I have a job as a PE teacher which means I'm standing all day and being physically active !

4 weeks now

Oh Happy Birthday Terri...poor you..I am 7.5 weeks post op but I literally take it one day at a time cos you just dont know how you.re gonna feel. Matron will be able to help you as soon as she reads this,I'm sure..I find driving quite difficult...causes pain on my left side...good luck...rest up!

One of the ways to check you can safely do an emergency stop and as I said it's recommended by consultants is to stamp your feet, one at a time on a hard surface. If you experience pain in your pelvic/vulval area then you're not ready.
