More than IBS?

Hi Everyone,

for the past 18months I have had pain under my right ribcage off and on. For the most part it is just very tender to touch and sometimes feels like its burning. A couple of months ago I had a sudden sharp pain where the tenderness typically is…it felt like someone was stabbing me (took my breath away) but only lasted 5-10 minutes then was gone. I havent experienced pain that intense since then but it is still tender to touch. The pain is now faintly being felt on the left side of my abdomen as well. To top this off I have had stool that has been pretty inconstant. I go from diarrhea one week to constipated the next and then when I do go its yellow. I have also had an annoying pain that alternates between the left and right shoulder blades. My doctor says its IBS but I fear its the gallbladder or even worse the pancreas. I have had multiple sonograms, and a CT scan that all show everything looks ,“normal.” I have also had so much blood work done that I have lost count…again everything looks normal. Has anyone ever experienced anything similar?

Yes ashtnren had all of the above and for a lot longer than you. Keep going to the GP or A&E , depending how severe it is, can’t be too careful as everyone, including myself thinks there having a heart attack. The only way to get yourself on the “leader board” to put it crudely. My GB was inflamed and thickened, no stones and working in the 80% region according to the results on a HIDA scan. Had it out 2 weeks ago but have not felt the full benefits of it as I have digestive issues.

I had gall bladder pain ,sounds like you are as well, when I had an abdo scan I was told I did not have stones but I had a fatty liver and liver cysts I experienced a dull aching pain and also stabbing pains and shoulder and back pain ,I was referred to the liver specialist and he sent me for another scan which showed I had multiple tiny gall stones I also had alternating diarrhoea and constipation I had a colonoscopy which was fine.I put myself on a low fat diet and eat smaller portions now and also do more walking its almost 6 months now and the aching under my right rib has almost stopped. What I am telling you is scans can be wrong when I had initial pain it lasted for 6 hours and if coughed it was like being stabbed I could not lie on my back or right side.I am waiting to see my doctor in 2 weeks to see what happens next.Go back to your gp if you feel unwell.best wishes.

thanks for the reply! was your back pain on the left side as well? everything ive read about gallbladder just talked about right sided pain. i have an apt with a liver/pancreas specialist thursday and will ask about a hida scan.

The pain in my back was in the centre, which i still have and going for an OGD on 22nd to see what’s going on. GB pains also affected both my shoulders and under right rib. The pain escalated into my chest when suffering an attack. Scary!

just wanted to give everyone an update . I had an appointment with a liver pancreas specialist who looked at all the scans I have had and said he feels that I am exhibiting classic gallbladder symptoms I have a HIDA scan scheduled for a couple weeks and depending on that could potentially have my gallbladder removed .

I have the same problems.first it w as constipation with all different colors including clay color plus alot of mucus in it .now it’s diarrhea and nothing that looks normal.I don’t get alot of pain behind right ribcage its mostly I n upper belly and the pains I get in my chest I have to put a heating pad on and I get pains in between shoulders blades.hida test Nov.14.I pray they find something and fix it I am one big ball of anxiety!

any news on whats happening ?
what happened with scan ?
