Movement

Day 8. Can you feel the movement of your new hip? It feels like a pendulum moving. Tony

sorry my hip felt normal after 8days but still sore. i am now 8weeks and doing great although still have some swelling in knee and ankle but gets easier to bend knee each day. i hope to try driving this week if the swelling will allow me to use the clutch. just keep up with the exercises and take things steady, you cannot rush things listen to your body as no two people are the same.

Hi, you don't know how it makes me feel knowing that I'm not the only one struggling, tho I am 9.5 wks post op. My knee is a nightmare, I go up and down stairs like a frog and haven't had the courage to drive yet. It seems the rate of recovery differs between people so much, it seems to me, the more stubborn you are( like me) the harder the climb up is?

Hi Tony try not to worry it's still early days. The feeling Ur getting was what I had for the first few days. The reason it feels like a pendulum is because Ur joint is moving freely after so long being stiff & sore. I felt like I was a puppet  & as if my leg didn't belong to me. But with the physio exercises I'm now doing really well & muscles are supporting me with no crutches in the house & one crutch outdoors. I'm 7 weeks post op & driving since Wednesday this week. Though I find the other hip is getting very stiff & sore since I'm not relying on crutches as much. But have 2nd hip on left side booked for January 29th 2016. Are u doing Ur physio exercises every day? I did 2 sets of 25 instead 3 sets of 15. It worked my muscles a bit harder.

Yes understand, RTHR hip was free for first time in 35 years, I had hurt myself in my 20's in a very nasty fall. and Hip was never quiet right, years of physio, and I could never complete a full natural swing back on the right side, it just used to lock up, and that affected my walking. That then developed into full on arthritis.  First thing I noticed was the hip moved freely, with no grinding or crunching and i could swing my leg back. WOW.

I'm 2 weeks PO tomorrow and a mess!!

My knee a are giving me far more problem than my THR hip !! My operated side knee feels overstretched and my rt knee ( TKR) has locked! Dr said I'd torn a ligament and pulled a hamstring! I'm exhausted, washed out, haven't bounced yet from the op!! Sleeping at least 6 hrs!! My hubby says I look transparent!! I've pottered tidying up & cooked dinner😱😱😱Find the standing very hard work!!

Hip side feels very weak! Muscles in bum weak!! I'm on one crutch! I can walk without one but too weak & waddle.

Day 2  leg feels like its so heavy and muscle hurts when does thar feel better was up walking yesterday feeling on top of the world

Gaby21 - Welcome to the world of a new hippie. You have just had one of the most serious surgeries those Dr's can subject us too. The largest joint in your body has been dislocated. Your femur, which is the largest bone in your body has been cut, and the marrow reamed out. Have you ever sprained a wrist or ankle, I'm sure you have somewhere in your past. This time you have sprained your hip joint thanks to the dr's. You just have to go really slow I'm afraid, You need all the sleep you can get, healing time, and for your body to adjust to making blood without the marrow that was there. Give up the cooking, or do bare minimum. I could only stand a few minutes at a time at the bench, let alone do anything before 6 weeks mark, and only when I felt like it, the rest of my standing time was taken up by doing my physio exercises gently gently, and a little walking with both crutches around the house. Better to use the crutches until you can walk properly, have a look at some of the vides on the internet, look for the hospital ones. you don't want to slip into bad habits, you have enough of those from the arthritic hip joint that you have to overcome without adding to them. Six weeks for torn muscles and 12 weeks for torn ligaments, and or cartledge, or so said my Dr, have had that injury, before my THR, and spot on regards time frame.

Feeling on top of the world: that was down to the drug euphoria I think, I felt the same. My leg felt like a dead weight all the first week, it is swollen down to the ankle now on day 9. Sleep is sporadic but of course I am not using any energy to make me tired. Good luck.

I am not due for physio until I see the consultant at 8 weeks pro op. I am just walking a few steps with crutches, little and often and moving my ankle. Tony

Tony - good exercise is Bum crunches, just tighten up your bum, you can do these liying on your bed, and sitting in chair. another one you can do  lying flat on your back, just bend you knee, and slide you foot not to far, towards your bum, not too hard to do, but it moves muscles in your legs as well as your bum and back.  Just go gently, its not designed to cause huge amounts of pain, but not terribly comfortable either.

Wow well when you put it like that lolxx

hi tony as everyone says we are all different I am four weeks in and trying more steps without the sticks watching myself in the mirror to combat the roll I am at the moment bottom tucked under core pulled up and looking like John Wayne so this has to be worked on or ill never go out again ha ha we will get there even if it's vanity that does it
