turp surgery 6 weeks ago still urge to urinate 20 times a day having to run to toilet is this the norm

John,

Your flow should be stronger than before the surgery. I had a bipolar TURP two months ago and am still going to the bathroom frequently, same as you, but I can tell that I am able to empty my bladder easier. You should go to your urologist for a simple PVR test to see how well you are emptying your bladder. You should compare your PVR now vs what it was before the surgery. If there has been no improvement, then something else is going on and you know it’s not your prostate - might be bladder issues. From what I have read and experienced it does take months for the bladder to rehabilitate and calm down. Also, I am taking trospium to calm the bladder. I stopped it for a while - didn’t think it was helping, but just started up again and it does seem to reduce the bladder irritation that makes me want to go to the bathroom. You didn’t mention nocturia in your post but I assume you are getting up frequently at night as well.

Tom

thanks tom i am due to see my GP next week

I had a TURP in February. Going less frequently than before. Getting up usually only once per night instead of 2 or 3 times. Can avoid urination when I need to. Overall very satisfied. So I would say your experience is not normal.

i had a regular TURP exactly a year ago, i go once or twice during the day but several times at night still depending on my intake during the day .
so yes, somethings not right, call your doctor .
