MRI After THR

I had an MRI on my right foot (thr on left) yesterday and felt pain and some odd feelings in my hip area during the MRI.  I know they are supposed to be safe with most hip implants but I was wondering if anyone else has had pain and other weird feelings in the artificial hip area during an MRI (mine is titanium, ceramic and plastic).

When I had an MRI while I was waiting for my THR they said 6 weeks minimum post-op because the implant needed to settle in and obviously no steel bits. I think you said yours was uncemented so it may have been that it wasn't fully integrated into the bone - if it doesn't hurt I wouldn't worry.

Thanks. It does hurt a little. I'm 12 weeks post op so hopefully it was settled enough but it hurt so much during the MRI that I almost asked them to stop it at least 3 different times. It aches more now. I have an appointment with the surgeon Monday so I'll talk to him about it but I wondered if anyone else had the same experience.

Poor you, I hope that no damage was done and they sort out your foot.

Thank you. They think a tendon is ruptured in my foot from putting so much stress on it over the past two years that I've been on crutches dealing with my hip on the other side. I'm trying very hard to stay positive and convince myself it will all get better soon.

Cindy I've never heard of anyone who had an MRI  so early after THR on your next visit to the surgeon ask him why so early and how painful it was. in the mean time go and see your doctor make sure he make a note on your record that's what happen if in case any problems. Let's hope and pray that wont be any problems. I feel for you.

Keep us posted on your answer fron the surgan and doctor.

Good Luck!!

I had mri a year after thr on my knee. I did not like the sensation in my body at all. It didn't affect my hips particularly but I found it difficult not to ask for it to be stopped as I felt very odd. Everyone feels it differently and I always think effects are minimised by the staff. I have had problems with my knee since having second hip replacement. It messes with the muscles and gait having a replacement. But with physiotherapy it is much improved.

Had one or two of those in the past few years. Most reciently had a Nuclear Cat scan. Both have never seemed to be a issue. I do find it uncomfortable laying flat in the required position for both CAT & MRI scans. It hurts to lay still in the same position

that long. Generally any issues I had I discussed with the technician . Could u describe UR pain or wierd feeling u experienced? Tricky to know what u experienced.

As long as UR hip did not continue to hurt or get worse after the MRI I think it's a hip joint issue that is from the new THR hip joints do effect us in different ways. It's always something. How's UR right foot?

STAY STRONG

Cindy I had a MRI October 7, 2014 it hurt very badly. The nerves in my toes burned badly.  I could feel where it was slicing my foot at all times.  I was totally surprised it had never happened to me before . I go to the Dr for my results Friday  October10

By the way I didn't have knee or hip surgery .

That's very strange. I've had several MRIs over the years and some have felt worse than others but never what you described. My hip has continued to bother me since the MRI but there's no way to know for sure if the MRI caused a problem or not. I would definitely talk to the doctor about it. He/She will probably just dismiss it but maybe you can find others with similar issues on Google. Hopefully it was just a freak thing that won't happen again.
