Hi there, a few weeks ago I was having frequent headaches and occassionally feeling lightheaded with floaters. I went to the opticians and they referred me to the opthalmologist who put eye drops in and said that at the back of my left eye the optic nerve was sheeted. I didn't quite understand what he was saying except that I didn't have any other symptoms for Optic Neuritis and wasn't sure but didn't think it was anything sinister. I am now waiting for a scan of the eye to see what that shows.
However, the last couple of weeks I have been getting pins and needles all over my body, mainly in arms and legs. I've also had general aching pains.
I have read online about symptoms and they point to all kinds of things, Fibromyalgia, Anxiety and possibly MS. As you can imagine this has really scared me as I have read that probelms with the optic nerve can also be related.
Has anyone else had these symptoms or are they too few for me to be making assumptions?
Hi there! If you search pins and needles it more or less takes you to MS, or that's what I found! I understand the state of panic you are probably in, as I went there too... My best advice is to keep a note of what's happening and go to your GP... I know you probably won't listen but don't spend hours googling symptoms as it really doesn't help and just makes you more stressed! Again, that's what I've found...
Thanks Caroline, I know what you are saying, believe it or not I tell myself the same thing, we do this to try and relieve the worry but end up worrying more! I have also had pelvic, lower pain and my periods have been a bit haywire the last couple of months. I have just turned 45 so I've also thought I could be perimenopausal, but you are right to say go and see the doctor...
try not to worry too much, I know it's easy for me to say but probably everyone on here and myself have experienced the anxiety that you are feeling, do you have any news?
im living with MS so don't forget Lisa it's not a death sentence 😉
Hi Sarah thank you for your reply. I won't know about my eye scan until 13 July and thought I would wait to see doctor after then. Although they can sometimes tell through the scan if u have MS I didn't think they could diagnose without an MRI . I don't know whether the pins and needles and aching pain is down to worry or even fibromyalgia as was questioned whether I had that a few years back.
Well long story short I had numbness on the left side of my face and over about 2 weeks the left side of my face drooped and left hand went numb and tingly, my doctor sent me straight to A&E and they did an MRI which showed multiple lesions, white matter and inflammation so they did a lumber puncture and it was confirmed, I'd been having MS symptoms for 20 years and ignored them such as brightness in my left eye, numbness in my legs and tingling, fatigue, just to name a few.
i have had eye tests over the years that showed nothing, you do have to have an MRI and lumber puncture to diagnose.
Ah sorry to hear that Sarah. It's hard to think that you lived with it so long before it was diagnosed do u have to take medication to slow the process down?
I only thought because of this sheathed optic nerve being related because they say sometimes it's one of the first signs?
Last year when I had this constant dull aching pain in right arm MRI showed just slight loss of curvature in neck and was only advised to have physio which I didn't because it went. However it is possible I guess it could be nerves. I just don't know how it could be diagnosed. Maybe I need to go for nerve conductive test, would that show trapped nerve doctor did say at time would refer me but never got the appt!
That's typical, you have to bug the doctors to get anywhere!
all this only happened in February this year so I've got my first appointment with my neurologist next month to sort meds, that will be a 5 month wait! I did see a neurologist at my local hospital but he said he couldn't treat me as he wasn't an MS specialist so referred me on. Your life is put on hold.
your eye scan is 13th and my appointment is the 16th, let me know how you get on 😊
