Multiple knee ligament tears

Hi just over two weeks ago I injured my knee playing hockey. I have completely torn my acl and lcl and the attached tendon to the lcl, also partially torn the pcl. My question is has anyone done similar? If so were you able to walk befure surgery? I am starting to think I don't b able to walk at all befure surgery as the couple of times I have tried even duty the leg brace on the outside of my knee just gives way. I honestly have no idea though so if anyone could advise me I would appreciate it.

I haven't had any experience of this, but it sounds bad!  What did the professionals say about walking?

I see the consultant this week so I will see what they say then. God knows how long I will wait for the operation on nhs.

Have you got a walking stick you could use to help for now?  If it is giving way it might be helpful to have the extra support?

I am still on crutches as I can't walk at all

If anyone out here as a member will be able to answer your questions that is a long time member out here is CHICO, he has played hockey for years & gone through much so I would say if not today by possible tomorrow he will see your posted question & will respond to you ok, God bles & best wishes for your recovery

Thanks Hopefully somebody has had a similar experience and can give me a bit of info

They made a fancy custom knee brace for my brother when he did that. Took molds of his knee and all. Was real expensive. This was years ago. He used the brace til they could operate. He had a little pain but it worked pretty good. Of course after the operation it doesn't fit properly so its not useful anymore. Can't remember what it was called but it's specifically for ppl who tore those ligaments.

Thanks for your reply. I think each person I is different . I have spoken to people who have just torn the acl and they have all been able to walk but because I have e torn multiple ligaments I am not sure. We will see

Oh dear,   Well it sounds like you had better keep the weight off it for now as much as possible.  Have you had an MRI?  Did they tell you to be non weight bearing with the crutches or did they tell you you could put weight on that leg?

I have had the Mri yes. The swelling has been pretty bad do it's been up a lot. The last few days I can put weight on it standing still but trying to move is not happening. It might come good. I suppose I will find out s bit more on weds

Yes, all the best.  Trust you are icing and elevating it!

Thanks i appreciate it. Yes I have been doing all of that

Stay off the knee.  Period!  Crutches.  Really.  Go see an orthopedic surgeon in a SPORTS group that works with your local college and pro teams.  They're the best at these injuries.

Played hockey for 45 years.  Ripped off the femoral condyle cartilage on both knees plus two menisci...four knee scopes.  Then a hip replacement and now a new knee plus a fused back.  My hip doc told me that because 30% of my hip was necrotic (dead), I'd probably had about 2,000 hip checks too many!!!  My hockey career is waaaaaay behind me now!!!  Yours could be too...

My brother could still walk. But it gradually got difficult. He said it felt like his knee was dislocating when he lifted it. Then popping back together when he stepped back down.
