hi I'm 12wks post op left thr I was doing ok and started bck to work but two weeks ago my muscles are really painfull and it's all in the muscles around top of thigh and leg , I've done loads of walking and my exercises , any one else had this ???
Hi I am 15 weeks post op, and yes if I do to much my muscles go tight and pain around the scars... I am using Comfy gel which helps relax the muscles a little..
โI went to GP last week because I had hot spots around the operation site and he said to me that it is all normal and that I am only 15 weeks post op no 52!! TAKES time to heal, and there will be time you get a gentle reminder not to over do it.
I had been on holiday and done alot of walking!!
โJust try to rest up and some gentle massage around the area is good.
Elaine were Do you get comfy gel from , I proberbly have done to much walking and in and out of my car , I will take advice thankyou .
Massage, massage, massage. Any oil will "do", but try for one of the purer oils. I prefer emu oil, but argan or jojoba are also good. Add some drops of "warming" oils - eucalyptus or peppermint are good, and a relaxing oil (lavendar is great). About ten drops TOTAL to 30ml of oil. Or you can buy a host of ready made oils, but try to stick to those better oils - for deep muscles emu is considered the best because it carries well through the tissues.
โYou don't want to be too gentle with the massage. These muscles are deep and the massage needs to penetrate them. On the outer hip, now that the scar is well healed, use the heel of your hand to knead the oils in. Don't stop at the hip - the muscles extend down those thighs (front and back), into the calves; and into the back. So really knead the whole area well. If there are areas that are particularly tight or sore, use your thumbs to really knead into the area.
โSelf massage is really easy, but if you are unsure, get a good massage from a physiotherapist to start you off, and pay attention (ask him or her to explain what they are doing and the points to pay attention to). That way you can be sure that you are getting it right.
If you struggle getting the right degree of pressure, there are a number of easy to use tools on the market that don't cost a lot.
I think she meant Comfrey gel. In some parts of the world it is known as Knitbone because its primary purpose is reputedly to help broken bones heal faster.
Chloe all perfectly normal even 14 months later muscles sometimes tighten up. Like others massage is good. I also have my osteopath work on the muscles and she does have to go deep. I also treat myself now and again to an aromatherapy massage. X
Yes Beth you are right I got it off Amazon.... have used this for years as it is soothing.... and does not irritate the skin but has a slight warming effect. When I was competing it helped stop cramps..
I have pain in my thigh I am 15 weeks post surgery. I am active walking and sometimes it really affects my gait.
The same advice. Your scar should be healed now, but massage will help. But it needs to be consistent, not just when you feel the pain or when you have time. The effort pays off.
It's actually the massage that is having the greater effect. Personally I think Coffey is great. I grow supplies in my garden. But its use in the way you describe is limited compared to other alternatives. Especially on the huge muscles around the hip. I prefer emu oil and jojoba oil for their penetrating qualities, combined with some warming oils. The lovely thing about both is that not only are they great for carrying the ingredients down into the muscle, but you don't end up with that slightly oily slightly sticky residue that many other things leave behind.
Thank you all for your comments I love this forum as you never feel alone there are always people with the same . ๐๐๐
Sometimes muscles rebel with all the walking. I is quite painful. I take magnesium supplements and a food hot soak. Rest the Wolfe evening.
It worked for me of course there is also magnesium spray that helps any muscle Gell OTC helps to,
