I have also notice the muscle on the new hip has a line from the hip to knee I can feel the bone. Is this all usual have I just got to excepted these problems ?
Oh My..... i think you should go and see your doctor that does not sound right.
Keep up posted.
Good Luck.
Hi rex,
i had mine in March this year and same with me, my gait is not quite there yet. I can go for a long walk of about a mile and half without the stick but i can feel the gait is not what i want. If i use the stick then it is much easier. I believe it has to do with a tilted pelvis that eventually will straighten up with time and exercise. And about the line along the thigh, not sure about yours, but i too can feel a hard solid area from the incision down about 4-5 inches and the thigh is still swollen and numb. That should make u feel better..
This part, " I have also notice the muscle on the new hip has a line from the hip to knee I can feel the bone. Is this all usual have I just got to excepted these problems ?"
Could you describe this better? Is it down the front of your leg, the side of your leg? pls describe this line in fuller detail, is it painful? Also are you tall & thin?
Could be the muscles are weak or damaged. They may improve but I would ask to see the surgeon again before the yearly check up. It might be you need strengthening exercises. I have pain in the knee and lower leg of the operated hip. I needed physio and lots of exercising which has helped strengthen the muscles around the hip. Although I am an active person, the muscles were weak and it was causing compensation in the knee.
UR experiencing the muscles and tendons that take time to heal . The tendon runs like a girdle across the hip down the leg wraps around the knee to the foot. That's the issue. In my case the tendon had several microscopic tears that took years to heal. PT helps a lot. There are many ways to build up strength in the leg and tendons. A PT can help with knee pain as well. It is a good idea to stop badminton befor the knee becomes seriously injured.
make an appointment with UR doc ASAP ask for evaluation and X-ray knee, also ask for a few weeks of PT to show u ways to strengthen the leg and move correctly.
sometimes leg length can be different after THR also can stress out the joints.
Thanks for the info it has put my mind at rest. Things are so much better since the op I am getting there but to slow for me LOL
Yes I would say I reasable thin I have put on a few pound since Op I am about 12 stone. The hard area is down the front of my leg to the left. I think I may be over doind it not to sure !!
