Hi I have been putting music on my phone ready for op day now it occurs to me will they allow my phone in theatre as i do not possess an mp3 player. Also can you smell anything whilst having op as i would assume they cauterize areas along the way.
I would doubt if you could bring anything into the OR. Logically, everything has to be very sterilized. I couldn't wear any jewelry, not even my medical bracelet with my drug allergies listed. (I had my drug allergies tattooed on my right wrist so it would be visible for all to see.) Beside, I would presume you'll be completely out! You won't hear, small or feel anything. The anesthesia should prevent all this. You can listen to your music after you're back in your room. Good luck with your surgery.
will be having spinal not sure about sedation last time i had sedation for a procedure i was aware of every second so slightly concerned about being awake. Not being done til april so lots of time to get really het up.
Tracey,
just had my op friday. I did the playlist thing lots of hip hop music, hurt Jonny cash and smooth operator. Seriously I had music ready that made me relax. Meaningful stuff you know. Did take phone in ready to use but the anaesthetists were great. Painless procedure before I knew it operation done and I was lying in recovery. I didn't feel a thing. Nothing!!!! They were amazing and I have the ultimate respect for these professionals. Remember, they do this on a regular basis so are completely clear that the patient has to be at ease. I'm sure they will treat you with the same respect and all will be well. Please remeber why you need op. If like me you're in pain then the opportunity to have no pain is a great decision maker.
Hi Tracey, if they say you can use it you would need to place it in aeroplane mode, that way it wouldn't interfere with their equipment. Good luck with your op!
Paula
Hi
Anethatist asked if I wanted sedation saying chap before me had spent all the time of the operation talking to his wife on the phone - brave man!!!
Hi Tracey
I iniitially requested an epidural with sedation-long discussion with anathetist and to be honest he put me off due to smells involved in surgery so i opted for GA.
All the best
the smell thing is what worries me most I know I will not feel a thing just hope they can give me enough sedation to put me in a happy place.
Thanks for all advice so far will have to hav
Thanks for advice so far feeling a bit more reassured putting pressure on regarding date cos i know i am getting into state already
Try to get yourself some time for yourself and think positive. I know it sounds easy to do but keeping busy will help this. Have comforting things around you from friends and family. It will be hover in a blink of an eye.
Think I might have too much time on my hands i am only working 3 days a week now and spending a lot of time on internet I need a new hobby i think this is just dominating my thinking and life.
Thanks Paula
Hi
I wasnt allowed to bring anything into the OT, not even the rosary I had in my hand , which was later placed on my wrist's after the op's.
Do not worry, leave it to the professionals as they know what they are doing , it will be over before you know it .
wishing you the very best of luck.
The last thing I remember before surgery was being wheeled out of pre-op and my mom saying "see you in a few hours" (they replaced both at the same time so took about 3 hours) .... I do not remember even being wheeled into the operating room, next thing I knew i was in post-op -- felt groggy but great ...
I was a jibbering wreck but the build up is worse. There is really nothing to worry about. The health care team are amazing and you are their priority. It will be fine. Please be reassured xxxx
Sorry, I didn't realize you were having a spinal. You're a stronger person than I am. I wouldn't want to hear the noise. I don't hear about many people having spinals here in the US. I like being out! Couldn't hear, smell, feel, see, etcl
i think it is more common now here to do it spinal they like you up and out of hospital quick so you are not costing them too much money lol
I was given an epidural and the anaesthetist said he would give me a light sedation (by injection) to help me relax and the next thing I knew the surgeon was putting the stera strips on and the anaesthetist was calling my name, he was rather goregous too, so my light sedation knocked me out straight away and I never heard, smelt or saw anything!
As said they go to great lengths to keep the OR sterile,so doubt they would risk any that.
For my recent THR I had an epidural and mild sedation which wore off part way through the op.
I remember talking gibberish to the aneashatist, and could hear rasping and knocking noises, which I assume was the stem being knocked into the femur.
Surprisingly though it didn't bother me at all,in fact in a weird way I enjoyed it..Cos you can't feel anything it doesn't feel as if it's your body.
You can ask for a higher dose of sedatives I think if your worried.
Good luck.
Hi
I had a spinal block .....have had 2 THR's and both times had spinal block and never heard any noise or smelled anything at all.
I doubt that they will let you take the phone into the threatre....everything has to be completely sterile
Good Luck
