I am 70 and have had prostate problems for 35 years … I recently had my first UTI and my Prostate Measures 8.8 x 7.7 x 9.4 cm in size. Total volume: 331 cc, was growing into my Bladder, time to do something.

I went with the Aquablation. April 27th 2023

Nothing too eventful with the procedure itself, but recovery has been a different story.

About an hour out of procedure, I got terrible pain in the area, like you had to go number 1 and 2 but couldn’t go. I was like this for about 40 min until they concocted something that calmed it down a bit. It was unbearable and I have a good tolerance for pain.

Then to the area of the overnight stay … About every 40 minutes got spasms that lasted about 2 minutes of incredible pain again. And blood and urine was overflowing out of the Catheter entry into the penis during these events. They said this was normal.

Got released the next afternoon with continuing symptoms. Went on and on …Couldn’t take it any more went to ER next day, they gave me a Morphine shot and got sent home with Oxycodone and Methocarbamol a anti spasm medicine…DID NOTHING. Still frequent terribly painful spasms with bleeding from penis during the spasm.

Still 3 days until removal of the gigantic Catheter probe, it was the weekend, put a call into my Urologist he said come in Monday we will take the Catheter out a day early. Four day of this relentless terrible pain and it finally came out. Remember also besides the every 40 minute pain horror, the catheter itself was quite uncomfortable. So things wound down from there, still burning, blood and pieces of my prostate coming out.

So, the symptoms finally ease about a week ago, all of a sudden, I get lightheaded, nauseous, Heart is racing and arrythmia. Currently searching for answers, hard to get in to see Urologists and Cardiologists, but was able to see my GP. My blood is all out of line and he says he is not overly concerned with my condition. Have a Cardiologist and Uro appointments next week, It has been a terrible experience…Oh urine flow seems Ok.

I had Heart surgery for a tumor in my heart 2 1/2 years ago and the recovery was not as bad.

Some of what you describe is sadly familiar. I had Aquablation last August, which I have discussed in another thread. I felt the way you did post-surgery, like my bladder was going to explode and there was nothing I could do about it. Then the spasms started. I recall someone commenting that they were pumping a lot of fluid into me. Overnight, the nurses could not keep up with how often my bag needed to be changed. I felt better for a few days until I got a UTI. That was about the sickest I have ever been. 104 fever, intense chills. Nine months later I am mostly feeling pretty good. But my flow is not as strong as it could be because of scar tissue. I can't help but wonder if this is connected to either pumping too much fluid into me, my dr's practice of leaving the catheter in for four days, or the UTI. At my last appointment they told me I will probably need a TURP at some point to clean out the scar tissue. Please update us on how you feel.

Things seem to be working decent, stream varies, but seems OK. I have a follow up on May 30th. Most pain is gone, a little burning, urine is clear then sometimes a little pink, every once and a while a little piece of the prostate tissue shoots out.

Now my problem remains Arrythmia, lightheadedness, slight nausea and weak.

The Arrythmia has subsided but then returns.

Have Cardiologost appointment on June 2nd.

Oh man started pretty heavy bleeding again 4 weeks out. With pieces of the Prostate present.
