My Dad is Heathy, No Symptons , Doctors Confused about Lung Xrays

My Dad recently had his Chest Xray done For Travel Purpose and the Doctors Found Pleural Effusion on Left Side of Lungs.

Our Physician Did Additional Tests . The Blood Count, RBC, WBC, LFT , Heart, Liver, Glands and all is Normal.

We also Did the Mintoux Test for TB which came Out Negative.

Physically My Dad has no symptoms whatsoever and is Energetic and Healthy 62 Years Young Guy.  confused He is Retired and Helps in the Household work.

He is Diabetic but taking Neodipar 250 MG three times daily.

He is currently on Diet. Salads, Foods cooked with Little Olive Oil and No Sugars.

The Doctor also Did the CT Scan which Showed Few Enlarged Lymph Nodes along with Opacity in Left Lungs. The CT Scan Concluded Either he has TB or Fungal Infetion.

 

The Doctor Presribed Cravit 500 for 13 Days but the Pleural Effusion Remained the same.

Right Now the Pulmonologist is also Confused and Has asked us to Do the Sputum Tests for TB and Fungal Infections.

What Might the Problem Be ??

Is it Contagious ?

Hi Aqua, I very am sorry to learn about your dad's condition and your great concern for him. 

There can be a few reasons why your dad is unwell, but before I explore the posibiities with you I would just like to ask you a few questions

Tell, me does or did your dad smoke or drink large quantites of alcohol?

While I wait for your reply, I feel I should reassure you that it is unlkely your dads conditions contagious.

No thats the Mind Boggling thing. My Dad Doesnt Smoke, Use Tobacco or Drinks. He has Never ever taken these things.

Also He is Against Medicines and Usually Tryes to cure Flu and Cough by takig natural Remedies.

There was this one time in Last December when he Accidently ate 3-4 Slices of Stale Bread with Fungus in it.

He is allergic to Dust and Air Pollution.

Hello again Aqua, thanks for getting back to me.

A Pleural Effusion is when fluid collects in the sack around the lungs.

It is not as uncommon as people might think and can be caused by quite a few things, some serious some not so serious.

It would be very wrong for anyone other than his doctor to speculate what could be the root cause of his problem because that could make things worse for you just worrying more than you should.

I am fairly certain that his doctors have everything in hand.

Hello again, well that is indeed puzzling.

I presume the fluid will not have been blood, so in that case a gram staining and culture would have been taken, and if that turned-out negative there is not a not a lot left that it could be.

You imply that they have also ruled-out any corinary-related condition as well which deepens the mystery.

It could of course be related in some way to an autoimmune condition, but that could take a while to uncover.

Have you asked your dads doctor at what stage they are at with regard to their investigations?

I am very interested in this case, so would you please keep me posted as to what else they discover and what progress he makes.

Hi

The Doctor is relying on the Xray and CT reports and it says that he might have TB or Fugal Infection.

But in either case it should afect the Blood count and WBC which is normal in his case.

The Doctor also asked us to do the Liver function tests and Blood Cholestrol tests which are also in range.

His Creatine Levels are a bit raised but also within range. His ESR is increased by 0.5 Percent which is the same value he was getting in 2013 before he had his Cataract Surgery done.

He is Retired since 5 years and has worked all his life in Openend Textile Field ( Cotton to Thread ).

His Sugar Level is around 200 Random and 150 Fasting without Medication. When He takes Neodipar 250 MG three times his levels become better.

The Doctor also Prescribed Amryl 1 MG tablet , But when he takes that his levels drastically drop to 99 Fasting and although its not a dangerous level , he feels heart palpatations and feels shaky so we consulted with the doctor and he stopped Amryl dose.

Currently he is just taking Neodipar 250 MG three times a day.

The CT scan also Concluded Normal Esophagus, Normal size Heart and Lungs, Normal Rib cage, Diaphram of Right Lung Elevated, Pleural Effusion in Left Lung, Slight Increasy in Lymph Nodes.

His Kidneys and Liver function are also normal.

We asked our Pulmonologist and he says its not serious and he asked us to wait and see what happens because right now physically my dad appears to be fit.

He asked Why we did these tests and CT , and our response was due to Travel Purpose.

We simply wanted a Doctors Certificate staring that the family members are Fit for travel and they dont have any Contagous disease.

I have to say that it is unusal to require ct scan and an xray where a doctors certificate alone would have been adequate.

Hope you are doign well.

I just wanted to tell you update regarding my dads case.

The Pulmonologost Requested couple of more tests , Sputum  test for TB and Fungal Infections . Both came out Negative.

Our Pulmonologist said my Dads lungs may be this way by birth and there is nothing wrong with him. He Gave No Meds saying if he has no smptoms he doesnt need Meds.

So We are just waiting for the Medical Certificate from our Doctor.

No, never there.

I've lived in the UK for all of my life and have travelled quite a bit throughout Europe, but not much at all to the Americas, the nearest being to Bermuda on a business trip many years ago.

I have heard that Ecuador is a beautiful place though, and I feel confident that you will enjoy it.
