Hi everyone. ...I really need to go to the dentist but I'm petrified. I've had a abscess for 6 months and it feels like it has spread to my sinus they is a disgusting smell at the top of my nose and my throat, we're i have the toothed abcess they is only half a tooth and it is rotting! Painkillers don't work closely oil works for a bit. I went to the dentist only for a check up in November and I had a panic attack in the chair and had bad heart palpitations. I always have skipped heart beats which scares me it's done this for 14 years ( I've had it all checked out its normal!) But when I lay flat in the dentist chair my skipped heart beats starts..it would be OK if I was sat up abit in the chair and not laying totally flat! I'm thinking about having a few whiskies before I go I know this will settle my nerves totally! Also I'm scared this abcess will make me die if I don't get it treated! 😢
It's so important to go with an abscess. I hate going to the dentist too and last summer I had an abscess. Diazepam really helped me so ask your doctor for diazepam if this helps you. A large enough dose will help you to just lie back and relax more. Plus ask your dentist not to tip the chair so far back. When I go to a dentist I also just tell them I have a huge fear of the dentist. When I tell them this it always helps me and I've never had a dentist not be understanding about it. Just admitting to that as I walk in the room, along with diazepam, really helps. Good luck!
Yes I agree. I have diazepam but not had one yet. I hate lying flat and told my new dentist a couple of months ago that I have developed real fear, no idea why! I said can you not put me flat and she leaned the chair back but not as far and asked if I was ok with that. It was much better and she checked with me every couple of mins that I was still ok. Tell you dentist you are afraid.
Thanks for your posts. ..when I went to see the dentist in November I told him I was petrified of going to the dentist and he couldn't give a damn! I've tried diazapam last year when I was flying to Tennirife and they did nothing for me I ended up drinking whisky and coke all the way their! By the way I never drink alchol only at weddings and new year 😊
You could also consider dental sedation. After my abscess I had a tooth implant that took many long procedures over a few months. I was dreading iit so paid to be given conscious sedation. It's amazing. I was awake but not that aware. Could that be an option if you're feeling really terrible for a treatment?
Oh bud - change your dentist - I had my dentist for about 12 years and he used to laugh when I said I was nervous - then I choked on water that was left in my mouth and freaked - he did nothing - just stared at me - I knew then I had to change dentists - changed to a new dentist and what a difference - a young girl who I wrongly thought would not be good, but was brilliant - so understanding.
Well I'm on mirtazipine and citalopram so I don't know whether if I could have it...I'm gonna be brave and book an appointment tomorrow....I think it's spread to my sinus because the past few days I've been blocked up, aching under eyes and fore head also I can smell the mucus it smells like rotten flesh....it's disgusting 😣
Hi Pamela
I totally understand how you feel. It's a vicious cycle. Scared to go dentist and scared to die from not going due to complications. My advice is call your dentist and tell them all this on the Phone. Ask them for a dentist who is used to nervous patients. Once you get in the room (easier said then done) don't hold back tell the dentist just how scared you are. For me this work wonders. From what you say they will give you anti biopics and will not do any procedures if there's infections. There's a good chance you'll be in and out......................
In my thoughts 👍
Thanks for your post I'm going to find a new dentist tomorrow 😊
Hi Pamela
Did you have any luck finding a new dentist?
Agreed.
Do hope she did - plenty of good understanding ones around who will clam you don.
