My dermatologist has prescribed Plaquenil.

I have oral, genital and skin LP.  My dermatologist is giving me steroid shots and has prescribed Plaquenil, but told me to see my opthamologist regularly because a side effect can be that it effects your retina.  Has anyone had any experience with this medication?

So sorry your dealing with all three. That must take up a lot of your time.

I have oral and genital. I was told by my dermatologist to be sure and see a dentist at least 4 times a year as this disease can really affect your oral health. 

Never have taken Plaquenil, but I've read on this forum of people who do take it and it works well for them. I take Cellcept and it works pretty well for me. I've also heard of people going in for infusion therapy at least once a month for OLP - so if yours meds aren't working well enough, you could ask your dermatologist about that.

I was on plaquenil for rheumatoid arthritis. I see my ophthalmologist 2X year.  I have been told that it builds up in your body. It does not leave. My count is 1246. At 1000 ophthalmologist is concerned. Although advised not to stop by rheumatologist, I stopped taking the drug.   There is a lot of research on its side effects. I have been on numerous meds for my genital lichen planus.  I was referred to a specialist in the Washington DC area ( I live in outskirts), so the drive is not too bad. He was a miracle man. He only treats problems of the vulva and pelvic region.  I have been on Elidel for the last two years, starting with 2X day to now, once a week.  Now, I have developed OLP !  What is us d for that condition?  Sometimes I feel like such a mess!

Will be watching this post . I have been on couple of different medications for Erosive Vulvovagina gingaval lichen planus seen my dermatologist last Friday he has taken me off Cyclosporine because blood pressure was to hught then seen the professor which deals with the oral lichen planu's and he said he thinks the next step will have to be injections because he doesn't think Cyclosporine is working that great .

I have  genital lichen planus....although my OB/GYN calls it Lichen Schlerosis. I have been on Clobetasol for years and it keeps the Lichen in check. It's not expensive and works like a charm.
