My doctor is a non believer

I went to my doctor and asked about fibromyalgia as I have every symptom under the sun, he told me it's a made up illness and won't help me. I don't know what to do next, I really need this problem sorted anyone else had this problem ? x

Hi Lisa - Even if your doctor is a non-believer you still have symptoms that need investigating? So what consultants is he sending you to? Is there another Dr in the practice who you could go to? Just don't give up. - sue

I'm a new patient to this doctors since I moved 5 months ago he said he won't touch this subject with a barge pole he said none of the doctors in the practice will even consider sending me to a specialist as it's not a real illness xx

Hi Lisa I first went to the doctors 5 years ago with terrible symptoms like fbro although I didnt know its name.  The symptoms used to come and go then and nothing showed up as I felt ok when I was sent to a rheumatoloist My then doctor didnt know what to do and let me leave the surgery in tears and now for 2 years I have constantly had the symptoms and struggle badly day to day, its awful.  However my new doctor surprised me and has referred me to someone else and waiting now for my appointment.  My doctor says he does believe in this condition and this alone makes me feel slightly better, find a doctor who will help

Thank u, I will ask another doctor only problem being the doctors I see own 3 surgeries in the district and the doctors circulate between the 3 surgeries they r very strict. I was on meds for 3 yrs for my anxiety and the day I joined my new docs they stopped my meds coz they won't prescribe that certain med to any of their patients. I've been in pain etc for years I just want it sorted xx

lisa - do you live in england? if so look on the internet for a local fibro support group - the members will let you know of enlightened doctors in your area.

my g.p has been very supportive, he has known me pre-fibro so maybe that helps.

he sent me to rhuem, then gastro, then physio to every consultant he thought could help me - I thought most g.p's were like that - trying to find the reason a perfectly healthy 49 women developed, chronic pain chronic fatique.migraines,"brain fog", IBS etc.

Hi Susan I am only 32 and I live in Wales, I have IBS, polycystic ovaries, fatigue, pain in certain points of my body ie...chest, back arms, legs, back etc. Then there's severe headaches, pain behind eyes, fingers and feet feeling swollen, anxiety. My symptoms go on and on at 32 I don't want to b like this I have looked all over the net for help but don't seem to find much . I'm just so tired all the time yet I wake up more tired than when I went to sleep and my doctor just says it's stress xx

change your doctor his talkng rubbish .

the american collage of rhemotolgy in 1990 listed symptoms for diognoses

thus making it an official illness

Ty I am going to look into finding a new doctor, I know it's a real illness I have 2 friends who have it and r being treated for it but they live a long way from me. They have given the same advice as u x

Hi Lisa,

I'm only 33 and more or less have the same symptoms as you. My GP sent me to a rheumatologist and I saw one on 2nd January and he said it wasn't arthritis and took lots of blood for tests like Lupus etc and he said if those bloods all came back normal then I've probably got fibromyalgia and he'd see me in three months.

Tests all came back normal so I'm assuming when I go back at begin of April I'll be diagnosed with fibro. I'm currently off work and have been since middle of December with the awful pain and trying to get the meds right. I'm taking 20mg amitriptyline at night and 400mg Gabapentin 3 x a day and it seems to be taking the edge off. I've come to realise that I'll probably always have the pain but will need to just get on with things as best I can!

Hope you are able to get a second opinion and get to see a rheumatologist who will help you x

It's recognized under disability and check Welsh rules on nhs

1 read up on you anti d as most shouldn't be stopped instantly and if he's not a psychiatrist he's not qualified to do so

the fact you are getting oedema In. Your feet indicates a systemic illness from kidney heart lungs needs looking into

pco can be a sign of thyroid

if your constantly tired could be thyroid or diabetes 2 so go to chemist for sugar test

fatigue can be for many reasons as fibromyalgia sufferers will know but also can indicate blood pathologies from anaemia to raised esr, crp, liver kidneys, white red pod cells vit d etc etc so it needs testing

research amount of money spent on fibromyalgia and occupational health training and education they do

look up NICE research fibromyalgia how to test 'recognise, thyroid diabetes etc these are protocols GPS must follow

when you done your homework then write to practice manager in a complaint letter, look up how to for Welsh nhs etc they are obliged to investigate

suggest magnesium vit d3 and vit b complex this will cheer you up reduce anxiety give you sunlight benefits and assist with aches .

hope this helps

I'm so glad u got a result with ur doctor hun I'm gonna push and push till I get seen by a specialist I need to know if ibhave it x

My goodness, where on earth do you live..(I'm sure it's not a third world country) don't you have rights..doctors actually are there for you,...they work for you... not visa versa...can't you demand a referral to a Rhumo..isn't there a medical board you can talk to about that dr and his surgeries...mmm...can't believe it in 2015...surely you have some rights...and to take you off meds that you've been taking for 3 years...it's seems it's all about him...but it's really right to be all about you..wow!! This man needs reporting..and they wonder why we get depressed and anxious..take you health into your own hands Lisa...look after you...be a bit demanding/know your rights...grrr

..all of us have had issues being duagnosed, it's such a lot of different Symtoms...this doc is never going to help you...feeling for you precious...,be blessed..:-(. Australia

Hi everything u just said I was tested for 2 weeks ago and they all come back normal, I have normal thyroid, normal sugar levels, fbc was normal they tested my kidney, liver heart I've had scans xrays u name it I've had it and they come back normal every time that's y I've asked to b tested for fibromyalgia but that's the one illness they won't test ne for. But tyvm for ur advice hun x

U hit the nail.on the head that's how I feel about it, I will fight it I have to coz I need a diagnosis now. It's a private surgery that take jus patients and they r strict so maybe I should seek outside help from someone else. Ty for ur kind words. I've had blood tests scans drags the whole lot and they all come back normal but all my symptoms point at fibromyalgia. X

Well done you...they say a change is as good as a holiday...hehe..Certainly sounds like Fibro too...I really hated to hear that a doc says to someone "it's all in your head" they have no right...it's almost celebration time when they finally give you the diagnoses too..hope all goes really well for you with finding an empathetic doctor ...:-) xx by the way where do you live?

Hi Lisa

Do you have any private medical insurance or are you already going "private"?  I got diagnosed through a medical insurance scheme at work and was referred to a clinic which has one of the top people in this area (Dr Neil McHugh).  If you can try and get an appointment at the Royal United Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath (the "Min"wink,  they have specialists in fibromyalgia, offer pain coping courses and undertake research.  They have an excellent website.  I don't know where you are in Wales, but hopefully not too far away.  Hope this helps.  Gill  xx

Ty hun, I'm in Wales x

No I don't have private medical insurance hun, I had to give up work and my old doctors put me on sick coz of severe anxiety and pain. And now I can't get the help I need x

Hi Lisa, Gillian is right you should report this 'out of touch' Doctor firstly to your practice manager and if that outcome isn't acceptiical to you then report him to your local Medical Ombudsman whose name and address should be made available to you by your practice, if not you should be able to find on line. Fibromyalgia is very very real I like millions (yes that many) wish it wasn't, you need help and this isn't the stone ages that help should be readily available to you. Also, the fact that he made you affectivly go 'cold turkey) is wrong on so many levels, he should be reported for that alone! Good luck you certainly deserve it, and I hope you get the help  that you desperately need. Huge hugs. S xx
