B***h doctor just told me that it may be better if I find a new dr?
I went to an acupuncturist who wanted more blood work due to my chronic fatigue .... he said she hadn’t done the FULL thyroid and he wanted a few more things tested.
Went to see her today explained I’d been in bed basically for 5 months ... said it’s depression all in my head ... will not do any more blood work . I’m astounded in shock !
Being ready for bed most days at 5pm is not ALL IN MY MIND !
Where do you go for help if your dr won’t help you ? It’s not like I’m there every week only been a few times since February .
Hi Lori,
Sadly, this is not the first time I have heard about a scenario like this. I have a very good friend who has Cdiff and is in a lot of pain from it and has had doctors basically 'fire' her as a patient because she is being her own advocate and they don't like being told what to do.
The older I have gotten I am realizing how narrow minded most health professionals are. I have literally educated my own doctors about certain medications or health issues. Honestly, it's inexcusable.
I would suggest calling other doctors and ask if they are taking new patients and then ask for a consultation visit to see if he/she is a good fit.
Ohh I do so feel for you. I have just about given up on Drs myself. I have seen so many. I feel like all they are good for is prescribing drugs that just cause more side effects. Utterly frustrating. But I guess all we can do is just keep searching. I hope your next dr is more understanding.
Hi Lori, I am so sorry. Is this your obgyn or primary? In any event, I agree with her...you SHOULD find a new doctor. She is an ass. It is frustrating, but on to the next. She has no right denying you blood tests. Most drs I have dealt will test me to shut me up. Try a DO (doctor osteopathic) vs MD. Several primary drs here are DO vs MD. It does not mean naturopath or anything like that. They went to medical school for just as long. They are conventional, however, they do not always jump to meds, and can have a nicer way about them. Just my opinion. 😊
My guess is she didn't like the fact that you aren't sitting quietly, not complaining about symptoms and just nodding your head like some dashboard bobblehead doll agreeing that you are just making all your issues up and that it's all in your head! Forget her! She is an ass of a dr!
What I did with my daughter was get the thyroid panel done privately. They have labs where you don't need dr orders to get them done. I paid approximately $150 to get the full thyroid panel done for her because I knew no GP would test everything that needed testing for a proper diagnosis. We the took those results to the GP. He did have to order thyroid bloods from his office before he would treat her BUT he only ordered the TSH and FT4. This is all most conventional Dr will order. My suggestion to you is get your own thyroid panel tested. If the labs come back with a thyroid issue, read all the information you can possibly stuff into your mind before heading to your Dr. Go in armed with sufficient knowledge to advocate for yourself! If the Dr doesn't like the fact that you can and expect to have a mutual understanding of diagnosis and treatment, then leave that dr in the dust! There are so many dr to chose from... don't settle for one that is condescending or egotistical! The thyroid is fairly complicated but you can get enough of an understanding so you don't get fobbed off or given some wack job treatment plan! I'm pretty passionate about this topic! My husband says I'm a dr's nightmare because I refuse to just nod my head in agreement and go along for the ride as far as them playing with my health! I insist they listen to me and that while I understand they know much more than me in the medical sense- that I have a brain and some knowledge and insist on being a
partner with them in my treatment. Many dr's do not like this approach! I'm lucky I found a GP that is ok with this approach and we work together as best we can. My dad died slowly over 4 years as I watched his Dr's act like asses! I go with my mom to her dr appointments now and can't believe how they treat her( and have tried to treat me)! It's bs! Stand your ground! You know yourself better than anybody and you know when you're sick! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise or try to shame you into being silent! I know you're upset over this. I would be too. Tomorrow is a new day and you can start from there. Everything will be ok and you will feel good again!
Yes exactly .... I’m telling her which tests to do and she doesn’t like it ! She was so aggressive with me ... I mean I’m paying for the tests so what’s the big deal !
She told me to go and see a shrink !
I have been so unwell the past few days ... I mean really fatigued and my face is not white but grey!
I got my OB/ GYN to send in the prescription in she was actually concerned and nice . I don’t want to be ill for attention .. I hate drs .
Yes wicked witch ! I was sat there crying saying ‘ I’m not making this up ‘ there’s something not right something more than hormones .... I feel so unwell .
She didn’t care ... what is it to her if she orders the tests ?
I ended up going to a CFS doctor on NYC, she does research through Columbia. Maybe look up doctors who treat CFS in your neck of the woods.
What a b*tch! Drs don't know everything. That's why they call it "practicing medicine". Guess who they're practicing on? Us!
I love my GP but after a visit she told me my blood pressure had been so good, that I could cut my medicine in half. If a pill isn't scored it's not meant to be cut in half. I ignored what she told me. When I go back in Feb. I will tell her to lower the dose to 20mg. I'm not cutting a med in half that wasn't meant to be.
Ok I’ll look that up right now .I live in a very quiet town with many old people so is hard to find a doctor .... months waiting lists and expensive concierge fees . I’d pay anything right now though !
I have to agree with him, because an acupuncturist isn't a medical doctor who can truly assess what's going on. But hey it's your call to pick a quack if you feel you're in better hands.
This is what's happening to me right now too Lori... my doctor won't do bloods as 'we prefer to go off symptoms rather than check hormones etc...' - I feel like yelling 'well my symptoms are that I feel like I'm dying most days so what you going to do about that???'.
Keep fighting, hopefully you can find a good doc somewhere and one day that someone will listen and help... its disgusting how misunderstood most pre and menopausal women are and how underrated the menopause is. It should be classed as a red alert period for women and more help put into it if at all possible. This may happen one day but sadly too late for us.
A girl could go mad with the symptoms, literally mad and yet to be told 'it's all in your head' is just the WORST insult.
Sorry for ranting - I've only just got up but feel so crap that it's just every day life and I hate feeling this way.
I hope you can get answers soon and that you're listened to, really listened to by someone who bloody understands for once. Good luck.
AJ. xx
I was actually told by one dr that they don't like to do tests because then it looks like they can't figure it out for themselves. And that everytime they do a test it goes on the record. They don't want to look like they are testing all the time..... can you believe that!! Moved on from that dr too. This is our lives they are messing with! Sorry I'm just so infuriated by this all to common treatment of patients.
Ego usually. I understand about finding a new Dr. In my area, barely anybody is taking new patients. I was going to change my dr, but in all honesty, he is not rude and has not treated me badly. He just changes the subject a lot and fixates on my diet as I’m ready to roll of the table dizzy. Sometimes I think he does not remember who the hell I am too! He did tell me to seek counseling, however, that was after prescribing Lexapro...probably so he is not trying to play psychiatrist. I see him next week. I was going to see a new one, but her office hours are like mothers hours...it’s a small town practice she is only open 4 days a week until 9-4...no after hours service. I woukd have to go other places for tests...I like going to 1 place for everything. I am seeing a new gyno since my other one left the practice, I also hate how we cannot just go wherever to be seen. Some of us pay a lot per month for insurance. Ridiculous. In any event...best to go on your insurance website or call. I know the monumental effort it takes to fight, make the calls, get to these appointments only to be crying in the car on the way home. I wished so many times they WOULD find the bad stuff they were testing for just to have answers. But, please, please, please...do not fall victim to any snake oil doctors either. Don’t give up Lori! 😉
Yes I know what you mean Lori. I asked my Dr why was my menopause going on for so long and was there anything else she could do for me. She prescribed some oestrel cream to use starting with every night for 4 weeks and then to use 3-4 times a week. Other wise there was nothing else she could give me that wouldn't make me sleepy. No answer to why it's been going on so long. I had a hysterectomy in1985 so went into early menopause and I am still having symptoms now. I did take hormone therapy for a few years from 1990 ,but had to stop because of a heart condition, in 2005. To my mind my doctor just didn't take my concerns seriousy and just tried to fob me off with the hormone cream. She is now retired but I don't realy have any confidence in any of the other doctors in the practice so I don't really know what to do.
Well he’s not just an acupuncturist he analyzes bloodwork also ... he’s very informed and knows his stuff . It wasn’t like I was going to another doctor he’s just sticking needles in me and giving me supplements .
It’s almost like you have to be your own advocate and tell them what YOU WANT ! I told her I’m not coming here to pass some time ... I’m ill and whatever it is ... is not getting better. I’m fatigued ALL the time but she basically said its all in your head.
Yes Lou spent $1000’s now on drs women’s natural drs and all kinds of other stuff!
And yes the thought of trying to find a new one right now is too daunting .
Still he's not considered a true medical doctor. I've been to acupuncturist many times before, she was great at calming the muscles but when she tried to subside the hot flashes it didn't work. She,on the other hand, told me to see my gynecologist which I did and long story short it was the best thing I could have done. She was excellent and knew everything about perimenopause symptoms. She gave me every possible medicine until we found the one that worked. My Asian friends have also said they didn't have any success when they tried acupuncture menopause symptoms, nor have any of the herbs or tea concoctions. What I do know is that sage and dong quai worked the best for my friends who didn't go the medical route. I recommend both except not sage to those who are allergic to ragweed.
My situation is a bit different though .... I have chronic fatigue syndrome and Epstein Barr virus which can reactivate when your hormones drop . I’ve been debilitated for 6 months now so he’s put me on a supplement program to get rid of the virus .
